I RSVP'd, accepting an invitation to a wedding and something else came up and now my hubby and I can NOT go. What is proper protocol?

Notify them immediately by word of mouth (due to catering demands), then follow up w/ a written apology. And do not forget to sent the gift.

Simple. Pick up the phone and give them a call. Let them know that something has come up and that you regretfully can not make the wedding. The sooner you do this the better. And then follow up with a short note and a gift and mail it or drop it off to the bride.

The proper thing is to call and offer to pay for the already reserved seats. Most will not take it, but it goes over so much nicer.

In most cases if it is after the RSVP date, they have given a final count.

You can always send a card to the couple with a gift card in it.

We were all set to go to a wedding when an hour before leaving we got the call that my grams had died. We sent a card to send them a thank-you for including us in their thoughts, etc. It was corny. I'll admit it.

You should call the couple and explain what happened. They should be understating to your situation. As a sign of good intentions, you should still get them a wedding present.

a simple phone call expressing your regrets at not being able to attend should do the trick...the sooner the better so your spot can either be filled or deleted from the wedding events.

Just let the person know. If you're close, give an explanation. If not, just give your regrets and say that something came up.

you need to call them right away and explain the situation so they can change the numbers at the hall.
