No, not a puppy!!! Apartment living can work for an older, settled Dane with perfect housemanners. While a Dane is considered “moderate” in the exercise category, a puppy or young adult may be too active for apartment living, as they need to have a measure of free exercise in a large, securely fenced area. While frequent walks on a leash is great (as long as you don't overdo it with a young puppy), they still need to have free time to romp, play and burn off excess exercise. Youngsters who don’t have a chance to do this will “burn off” that excess energy in unacceptable ways, such as barking excessively, destruction, and just plain being a pain in the you-know-where!
Other concerns to address with apartment living are noise issues (barking when you are not home), housebreaking (especially if you live on an upper floor) and, if the landlord says yes, then changes his mind, or the apartment policy changes.
With a puppy, destruction can also be an issue. Again, an older, settled adult with suitable housemanners could work out well. Please think about this carefully. Puppies need lots of attention,if you are not home all day,its unfair to get one.Deep chested dogs such as Danes have a tendancy to suffer bloat,so you will need to be around after feeding, and follow the rules to avoid bloat, which requires you to be there. Too many dogs are given a home only for the owners to realise they made a bad decision so please, I urge you to think carefully.

It doesn't really sound like your balcony would really be a good place for your dog to spend most of its time. Danes need lots of room to play, eat, sleep and just exist. The dog wouldn't be very happy and it wouldn't get nearly enough exercise. I don't think a Great Dane would be the best choice for you. If anything Danes require MORE exercise and food than the average dog! The vet bills will be quite high just because of their size, the time you will have to invest in the dog's training is also quite high! You wouldn't want a 200 pound dog with poor behavior.

Before you get a great dane you should do a lot of research. Because they require a lot of care since they are so big. They might knock things down this their big gigantic tail if they are really happy. And I don't think it is good for such friendly dogs to be left alone. Probably another kind of dog suits your lifestyle. But if you did the research then hey, go ahead. I love Great Danes, they are so cute. My friend has a black and white one named Kitty and he has one ear that flops down!!!

actualy a great dane is the best appartment dog u can get...it may be big but it requires less amount of exersise and food then the average dog..they are able to hold their bladder for 8 hours so i would suggest a short walk in the morning and then a longer one at night

If the dog is going to be alone all day, you NEED to take it for a long walk before work - you can't just expect the dog to be happy all day alone when it is full of energy and wants to play. It must be tired out before you leave so it will sleep all day.

We take our pup for a walk and a game of fetch before leaving for work. She whines a little when she first goes in the crate, but soon settles down for a sleep.

Nah, a Dane will not fit your lifestyle. I think the Dane will think you don't fit his/her lifestyle either. So it'll probably be mutual.

If you have a big yard for it to play in. Don't forget it consumes lagre amounts of food, so it puts out large amounts of poo!!
