I have heard people saying, drink plenty of water. In fact, I am doing it all along. But, my problem is the otherway around. I drink a lot of waters say around 3.5 to 4 ltrs today. I have heard normally based on your height and weight you should drink. I am 5'6" and 76 kgs.... People say 2.8 litres would be sufficient. But, i drink more than that. Ofcourse because of which i have to go the rest room quite often.
Can some one tell me whether drinking of too much water is bad or not ?
Thanks in advance.

You get water from your foods and other drinks also. Too much water can upset your electrolyte balance and cause you to lose salts. You could pass out if you're not careful.

Unless you're in extreme heat, or exercising or some other situation where you need to replace lots of fluids, you could probably drink a little less.

It is probably the most common fact told by doctors and mothers alike – drink plenty of water. However, how much water is enough and can drinking too much water actually be bad for you? The answer to this is yes! Drinking too much water can lead to a condition known as water intoxication and to a related problem resulting from the dilution of sodium in the body, hyponatremia.
Water intoxication is generally seen in infants below six months of age and sometimes in athletes. A baby can get water intoxication as a result of drinking several bottles of water a day or from drinking infant formula that has been diluted too much. Athletes can also suffer from water intoxication due to the fact that they sweat profusely, losing both water and electrolytes. However, more commonly, both water intoxication and hyponatremia occur when a dehydrated individual drinks too much water without the accompanying electrolytes.
When too much water enters the body's cells, the tissues swell with the excess fluid. Your cells maintain a specific concentration gradient, so excess water outside the cells (known as serum) draws sodium from within the cells out into the serum in an attempt to re-establish the necessary concentration. As more water accumulates, the serum sodium concentration drops, which is known as hyponatremia. Although electrolytes are more concentrated inside the cells than outside, the water outside the cells is 'more concentrated' or 'less dilute' since it contains fewer electrolytes. Both electrolytes and water move across the cell membrane in an effort to balance concentration. Therefore, it is possible for cells to swell up to the point of bursting.

There is potential for illness due to drinknking to much water. The fact that water can cause fatal overdoses is not well known. Often called "water intoxication" or "hyponatremia" (low salt), water poisoning results when too much water is ingested in too short a time without replenishing electrolytes, particularly sodium and potassium. A person with two healthy kidneys can excrete of about 1.5 litres of water per hour at maximum filtration (other studies find the limit to be as little as 0.9L/hr [1]). Consuming as little as 1.8 liters of water in a single sitting may prove fatal for a person adhering to a low-sodium diet, or 3 liters for a person on a normal diet. However, this must be modulated by potential water losses via other routes. For example, a person who is perspiring heavily may lose 1 L/hr of water through perspiration alone, thereby raising the threshold for water intoxication. The problem is further complicated by the amount of electrolytes lost in urine or sweat, which is variable within a range controlled by the body's regulatory mechanisms. Water intoxication can be prevented by consuming water that is isotonic with water losses, but the exact concentration of electrolytes required is difficult to determine and evolves over time, and the greater the time period involved, the smaller the disparity that may suffice to produce electrolyte imbalance and water intoxication.

If you have a cancerian Zodiac sign or water based sign, then I have come to know that you do not have to drink that much water. You should actually concentrate on loosing weight by having balanced diet with enough nutrients and less of oily things like, Pizzas, Burgers with extra cheese kind (Fast food (junk). And also try to have 3 hours break short meals rather than big three meals in a day. Introduce more of fruits & fresh boiled green vegetables (without frying).

Drinking too much water will make you feel bloated and keep you going to the restroom quite often . An average of 8-12 glasses of water a day is fine. It will help flush out toxins from your body and keep you fully hydrated for the day!

The worst thing that can happen is that you will go pee more often, or you may retain water a little. Retaining water symptoms are swelling of the feet, hands, or other joints, which won't happen if you stay active. A lot of water will keep your body flushed out and operating properly. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. Drinking more water than what is required is a good thing in my book.

YOU ARE DRINKING TOO MUCH WATER!!

You DON'T NEED to drink 8 glasses of water a day. You certainly don't need 1/2 your body weight (in oz.) per day. You don't need ANY arbitrary target amount per day. That whole idea has been debunked. IT'S JUST NOT TRUE!

Drink when you're thirsty. Period!
