An Ambassador about to retire has said that Iraq is in a mess on the brink of a civil war. With as many as 50 deaths a day, the situation is out of control. We invaded the country on false doctored evidence, based on lies. We removed the dictator, but the country is currently in chaos with up to 50 civilians and 10 troops dying daily.

Are you proud or ashamed of what we are doing in that beleagured country, and do you have any solutions?.

I am very saddened by the horrific images which I see in my newpsaper and on my screen each day. It seems we have totally lost the plot in Iraq. We send in young soldiers, cannon fodder, who are doing the best they can in extremely difficult circumstances. I feel that this whole sorry Iraq Saga has descended into chaos, civil war, and we have to look to Bush and Cheney and the Pentagon for they are the power brokers who got us into this mess. They are the ones who write the Billion Dollar defence checks, currently at $422,5 Billion. They are the ones in bed with the multi million arms industry who have a vested interest in the prolferation of Arms and the contuation of conflict. Civilians and our soldiers are the victims of this greed and agressive power play. Look at the mess the amount of wars which have flared up since Bush has been in power. Iraq, Afghanistan, now Lebanon. We are a world in crisis, and they are laughing all the way to their off shore accounts. Cheney is very happy with the Billions earned his company Haliburton from Iraq contracts from the death destruction and despair of a country.

Just read today's report of further abuse, written by an AP miliarty writer. It says it all..

Are you ashamed what these Marines did?
Probe backs allegations against Marines By ROBERT BURNS, AP Military Writer

WASHINGTON - An initial U.S. military probe supports allegations that the Proud American Marines deliberately shot 24 Iraqi civilians in Haditha last November, a Pentagon official said Wednesday. The Proud Marines stated it was the American way.

The Marine Corps and Navy prosecutors are now reviewing the evidence to determine whether to recommend criminal charges. That decision may be weeks away, and the lawyers may ask investigators to probe further, two officials said.

They discussed the matter on condition they not be identified because the case — among the most sensational of several involving Iraqi civilian deaths — has not yet produced charges.

"It's fair to say that the majority of the work has been done and the Marines did it and then laughed about it. The Marines stated President Bush was proud of them and would request other Marines to do the same thing. It is the American way
Our military mentality in the U.S.A. is out of control and out of order. We spend billions for defense but precious little on human compassion and respect toward others'

You know, people felt the same 60 years ago about Germany. Now look, Germany is a beautiful country and the United States still have lots of bases there. This is a similiar situation. Iraq is the foothold into the Middle East, as well as what Israel is currently doing. If the United States just gets up and leaves, terrorist from Afghanistan, Syria, Iran, and Lebanon will flood into that poor country and basically have a land of it's own. This type of warfare is the worst kind, unfortunately that is the only way terrorists fight; they are cowards who take pot shots. In Iraq, the locals told us that we have to be just as vicious as they are (contrary to popular belief, US troops are rather kind occupants), because they only respond to violence. However, that is against Geneva Convention so we cannot. It is unfortunate, and there is no end in sight, as much as I want peace over there, it won't happen in the forseeable future. Your numbers are a little exaggerated by the way and the United States is seriously helping that country big time. Troops are not the only targets! Iraqi soldiers are the targets of terrorist as well. We should be proud of what those soldiers are doing over there no matter what, they are sacrificing alot, and it will be a great feeling to see Iraq stand on it's own 2 feet one day.

Agathe, watching the news does not give you credible information. Go to Iraq, and see the real story! I was there Mar 7 2003, from the very beginning. I LD'd with 3ID, went from Kuwait to Baghdad, and sat in Fallujah for 9 months. I remember being in Baghdad, the people are no different from you or me. They will talk to you, shake your hand(cause they know American customs), and they are happy that Saddam is gone. They are good people, these are the people that terrorists and sectarian groups are targeting along with the Americans. Saddam was killing civilians! You know how many mass graves were dug up? He gassed people with nerve agent!!! Do you have any idea what nerve agent does to you??? American soldiers are risking their lives trying to PROTECT the Iraqi people who want to be free! Just like they did in Germany 60 years ago. Sectarian groups driven mad with religion and narcissm are the cause of the violence moron. US troops/Iraqi troops have a police role. Did you know that US troops have been training the Iraqi army since mid 2003? They have always said as soon as the army can protect the country, the US will leave. Yes, US troops are working side by side with Iraqi troops, and they are good people. No different than you or me. Keep watching the news though.

Are you forgetting the thousands of people killed every year by Saddam? Are you forgetting the Olympic athletes tortured if they didn't win? Are you forgetting the use of chemical weapons by Saddam? Are you forgetting the 7 year war between Iran and Iraq that killed more than a million? How about Kuwait? Suppose they were happy when Saddam took their country? How about the abuse the Kuwaiti people suffered from Saddam? How about Afghanistan where women couldn't even go to school and were imprisoned for being raped? Beleaguered Country my A**
It is a mess because the Sunnis and the Shiites hate each other and are not smart enough to talk out their differences. What they are doing is the same as Catholics and Baptists killing each other because our beliefs are slightly different

I am neither proud or ashamed, I am very saddened.

When was the last time you went to a major downtown? Look at the homeless people. We have senior citizens dying daily from lack of funds to buy medication. We have trouble in OUR country we need to repair with the money that is being used in a war we simply have no business in.

We have our kids, friends, neighbors dying alone in a place far away from where they belong.

If the war is the right thing to do why is it that Bush has not had his kids sign up, grab a gun and go fight the war he started?

Other than send our troops home , it is politicaly in correct to pull then out it would make the us look stupid or realy the Gov. the most i can say is when i hear my husbands voice on the phone or a buzz on the computer i can slowly breath a little easier cause i know he made it another day with out any problems so i would have to say that im proud of him and how he does his job the war that is not for me to descide , im not the one who said that our men and women needed to go over and fight a war . so being ashamed or not is really not the thing , support the men and women till they all come home they are just doing their jobs and i think that is the one thing people forget a lot of the time they gave up being civillians to be told what to do to protect and to serve every one of us out here in the civillian world i have to live in 2 worlds the military and the civillian i see it from both sides every day

No i am not proud.

solution: to get out of iraq now. Why do you think Shittes and sunnis are fighting each other? because the sunnis claim the Shittes are allied to the americans. if you go out, the problem will be solved.

I am proud of what we are doing.

The people who deserve to be ashamed are the ones who believe the 'doctored evidence' claims. All they are doing is demonstrating that they are so prejudiced that they will believe anything that appeals to their political prejudices.
