If a man is not ready to settle down or ask for your hand in marriage - no amount of forcing or whatever you do could make him marry you. Should he be "forced" to marry you then, the marriage may not be successful.
Ideally it's best to keep the dating years short and a minimum of 2 years so that you know him well enough to marry him.... but in this case, i feel it's too long. If you're not in a hrry then wait for him, if not, move on.
I have an aunt who dated for 8 years with Mr A but didn't lead to marriage, she gave up the guy and dated Mr B and got married soon after. A woman's youth is limited but not a man's. Most men become better looking as they age but not women!
All the best! And i hope i helped.

There are people who simply drift along, searching for somewhere they belong to in this world. Looking for a place to call their own, they want to know where they stand in life. Years go by, but the answers might still be unknown to them, even til their very last breath on their deathbeds. Maybe that's what this journey called life is all about.
But living life is never a waste. When we have somebody to love and something to hope for, we learn to embrace the true beauty of life. Cherish every moment of your life because once it's gone, it will never come back. Sometimes you miss it so badly that it hurts inside.
Missing somebody, especially if that person is just by your side, has got to be one of the worst feelings.

After 6 yrs.....GOD get a room.....Have you and this person talked about committment seriously ??????
I'm sorry but I find your question a bit odd....I certainly wouldn't keep the dating thing up after 6 yrs....It's either $hit or get off the pot!!! A ring on the finger, a dance down the aisle or HIT THE ROAD jack!!!

Sliding scale.
In your youth, you haven't experienced enough yet to know what pleases you in a partner. You may stay with one person a long time without knowing whether they fit you.
As you age, you will know more about what you like in a significant other. Once you know more about your personal "good fit," you will have the experience to break things off or keep things going with less time invested "testing the waters."

My girl said she want a man to put a ring on her finger. So I did. We've been dating 8 years and I have not given any real thought to marriage. To each his own, you have to decide whats best for your situation.

there is no curtain time,if you both feel like the time is right and you are ready for responsibilies then you can get married, some people can live for 12 years but they marry different people, ask your boyfriend if he would like to marry one day,if he doesn't give you the straight answer, find youeself another person who is ready for responsibilities.

If all you are fixated on is getting wed, then tell him and if he isn't in any rush, call it all off... Cos, you obviously are more interested in getting married than loving your bf... Little self-centred, don't you think???
