To clarify: I'm annoyed that Christians, especially, seem to think and readily claim to be responsible for civilisation because of their associations with seats of learning. Actually, the church has a history of suppressing secular science and the knowledge and understanding it has discovered.

Well, there's the thing that you're suggesting - without theism we could expect our knowledge of the world to advance more quickly and "purely".

There's also the fact that we'd have one fewer reason for people to hate each other, and it's a big one.

People would, I believe, find more honest reasons to help each other if they stopped believing the god stuff.

There are certainly some downsides as well, but frankly, I think overall it'd be a good thing if the god stories were to disappear.

Dont know about better , but telly on a sunday morning would be less annoying. Haleluya? Piss off...... . the church(s) of christianity cant even agree with themselves. What example does that set? Popular Peoples Front of Judea? splitters!!!
Dont belive a word of it. Its just a way for men in dresses to get little boys into bed. Thats the truth of it and probably the only thing that can be proved time and time again about christians.

Stop concentrating on the distortion that man has caused with and by religion.

There is a BIG difference between God and religion. And it is this :
God is LOVE, Universal, Spiritual, Natural and Eternal.
religion is manmade and inflated with human egos.

This is where so many have turned from Love to human opinions and influences.

This must and will stop for ud to progress. Jesus Christ did not preach religion, neither did he make Christianity. He delivered The Word from God to us to show us the error of our ways and how to fix them.

Think about it and see the difference.

You're gonna burn in hell for this question.

I personally hope you don't and believe you wont but there are some religious zealots on here that will be secretly hoping you do though.

As for the church suppressing science...well they can't have someone disprove/disagree with their ideas now can they?

That sounds like a conspiracy theory if I've ever heard one. But yes, it would be better. No "religious extremists". No holocaust, no Crusades, no Spanish Inquisition, and no September 11 attacks. Not to mention that without having to consistantly prove creationists wrong, science could be more advanced than it is.
