I remember watching this British tv show a while ago where a traffic copper was driving on a nearly empty dual carriageway at 50 in the overtaking lane (not overtaking a thing). A driver caught up behind him but the copper didn't pull over. He was waiting to see if the other driver would undertake him. Eventually the other driver did and so was subsequently nicked for breaking the law. Am I supposed see this and still support the police?

I forgot to mention, it was an unmarked police car.

...and it was a 70mph speed limit.

Traffic police are proper bullies, and dont try and catch idiots, they try and trick people into all sorts of minor offences.

a lot of police are on a power trip. Shooting unarmed and subsequently obviously innocent people is merely a by product of their desire to be Judge, Jury and Executioner. Sir Ian Blair is no exception to this rule and should be charged with conspiricy to murder (for his shoot to kill policy, which is premeditated killing). Even murderers in this country do not get the death penalty, so shooting someone who is "acting funny" is totally inexcusable!

I am sure there will be police reading this at some point, so feel free to add your personal opinion. It doesnt sway my opinion that they go for the soft targets because they know they will get a conviction much easier.

We need a police force, but not a currupt and power hungry one!.

Depends. Very many dual carriageways in the UK have a 50 mph speed limit, so the policeman may have been actively enforcing the speed limit (a good thing). If someone then decides not only to overtake on the inside but break the speed limit in doing so, then fair play to the policeman for nicking him....

I haven't seen that particular show. I try to keep an open mind about our Police, they do have a hard job. Some are without doubt complete swine.

I think that they have to maintain an image of aloofness, in order to keep authority. I've always found the police that I've spoken to, to be reasonably considerate and kind. I've never been a criminal though.

I might have a different opinion, if I'd been mucked about on the road like that. I have noticed their driving is often a bit thoughtless.

the police are a law unto themselves ... how many times do you see the news that yet another cop has been let of for breaking one law or another ... they dont help us with much at all so why should we help them... a few years ago my car was parked outside my home and was ran into by another car but other car didnt stop so i told police and all i got was there was not enough evidence ... the car that hit mine left its paint on my cars body work and also broken glass from its lights so i collected this glass and drove around looking for a car with broken lights and the colour of the paint it left on mine from the crash... after no time at all i found the car and aproached the driver who admited to the offence... simple detective work that i had to do myself so why do we pay the police GOD ONLY KNOWS ... another instance i had been parked outside a shop and police were waiting for me to come out they told me that my number plate letters were a little to small which annoyed me so i told them to go catch some real criminals to which they both jumped on me and hancuffed my hands behind my back and took me to local cop shop and locked me up for over an hour... give me one good reason why we actually need them????? zombie :)

It actually happened to me . When i was stopped i pointed to the officer that he was just too slow and I have urgent business to attend to.
He said to me 'you are breaking the law because you are in a hurry im going to book you. He gave me a ticket a £30 fine.

The problem today is that the police is trying to do their job, if i would see one doing that on purpose than i would report it but it does not mean their all do it. The police is dam ed if they do and dammed if they dint do it, its sometimes hard for them to do their job, i wouldn't like to be a police officer.

Yes.

He shouldn't have undertaken them. The police shouldn't have been in the overtaking lane but thats not a criminal offence.
