it depends on how you see it. if learning gives you joy then i dont see why assessment wont. examinations are used to measure how much youve really learned. if it shows negative results then you ought to examine if you truly and sincerely like learning. if it gives you positive results like an A then how rewarding. i wouldnt really try to so much emphasis on examinations. the most important is that you learn. if you learn then its automatic that you will get good scores in your exams- an icing to a super filling cake.

That's partly true. Learning and teaching are parts of education. Both are aimed at acquisition of knowlege that is useful for all the aspects of life. There must be a measuring scale for the things what we acquired without which we cannot understand how much we have assimilated. Here comes the examination system. Nowadays this system is somewhat snatching away the joy of education. Many radical measures in the examination system are being introcuced. Examination is a necessary evil without which education system cannot move. However the system has to be changed to remove the unhappy feeling about the examination methods, Let's hope for earlier transformation.

I can agree to that statement but only to certain levels. Studying is always a joy, learning new stuff and all. Some instructors/ teachers/ professors take the joy out of studying because some of them are too lazy to teach and use exams as a score card for students. There are teachers who do not use it as an excuse to see just how much their students have learned. Maybe change the way you see things, you might actually enjoy taking an exam. But as I said - only to a certain level.

Education has actually reduced to literacy.
Now education is not about learning the basics of living life and handling situations. It has become more of a compulsion to sit in exams and get a certain number of marks/grades.
God knows where will our next generation be!

In my experience yes! I teach special education on the high school level. I teach science mostly. The students are expected to know the same detailed information and take the same detailed exams at the end of each school year.
There is no time to go into depth so that we know they all understand a topic. Got to rush on to the next one even though much of science is developmental, what we learn in one topic depends on understanding the ones before.
There is no time to watch a video or do hands on activities as we have to cover so much information.
It's frustrating for all concerned - can't wait to retire...

not really. the joy of education belongs to you ONLY, when you really find to expand yourself day by day, you are getting richer ... but anyway the ONLY thing is required you need to be patient enough ... the joy of education is not as quick ( and short ) as taking a drug or having sex for few times. it's long term and deep.

i'm able to inform you from personal adventure that i love researching; loved all my college classes, loved the heck out of school often, despite the indisputable fact that the tests!! i think they are mandatory, yet they certain continuously wore me out -- the hours of reading, cramming, mnemonics, with the intention to bypass a attempt that regularly changed into poorly made, ambiguous, or only a blue-e book essay torture ordeal. i could say that my excitement of training changed into squashed, beat up, kicked round, "placed to the attempt" by ability of the demon of exam. yet i could do all of it again!

if you like education, you will like the exams too. You are no slave to something that you enjoy.
