Bummer isn't it?? Personally I think it will be the beginning of the end for the good ol' British pub. What's the point on going out when you can drink alcohol cheaper at home and still enjoy a ciggy with it??
Wish I had the answer but I'm afraid I don't. You're welcome to come round my gaf though - I think there'll be a few of us ...

I am thinking about quitting next winter because going outside all the time for a smoke will just end up being a real drag (geddit? haha).
Anyway i was in Saskatoon, Canada last year and you cannot smoke in the bars there either. Outside it was -42*C. Yes THAT cold. Going outside to smoke just didnt seem worth it after the first time as i could not move my fingers together for 10 minutes afterwards.
Hopefully good pubs with gardens will get those outdoor heaters which will help a lot.

Wrap up well and order three double brandies before each cigarette break. Personally I'm so pleased that the ban is coming in as my main entertainment is live music and smokers at gigs not only foul the air (and in a packed gig it's impossible to move away) and I have also sustained 4 cigarette burns in the last 12 months from people lighting up despite having no room to actually hold a cigarette so it doesn't touch anyone else. I asked the last one how he would feel if I came up to him with a red hot poker and poked him in the arm... after a spirited debate he admitted he would probably end up calling the police so I asked him why he thought I shouldn't just do the same to him.....

Hey dont panic. i live in NZ and weve had the no smoking thing for a couple of years. i so dreaded it and really didnt believe it would ever happen.
anyway it turns out its not so bad after all. for real the pub is not hideous and smoky, which was never nice even for smokers. but most places have adapted and have great shelters and great outside heating (not sure about those old country pubs though). and in summer its great. it turns out that outside the pub really is the place to be. its a great place to meet people and moan together. honestly dont worry its not so bad at all. its odd watching the non smokers sitting on their own in the pub - all of a sudden they are the minority!

Many countries have implemented smoke free pubs. Try googling for "Ireland pub smoking ban" and reading some of the articles, or visit Wikipedia on the link below.
You may have to find a better pub - one that has a heated outdoors smoking area.

I think its going to have to be thermal underwear and thick woolly jumpers in the winter and no problem in the summer, but what is the point of going outside to smoke when you just wanna stay and chat with your mates in a nice warm cosy place, your missing out on the gossip constantly going outside for ciggies, guess we are all going to have to give the ciggies a miss and save our money for something better, like nice holidays and things for our houses, a lot of these professional people who give you advice on stopping smoking suggest you go outside to smoke as apparently it becomes so annoying you just stop, some say you stand in the bathroom and light your ciggie, don't sit down on the loo seat or a chair, you have to stand, its supposed to annoy you so much that your smoking in a place that is meant to cleanse you that it helps you stop, haven't tried either of these things myself yet, but going to try really hard from Monday, good luck at choosing a thick woolly jumper for the outside ciggies time.

if thats the case then i wont be going in them its bad enough that the government tax the a55 off you now they want you give up and will lose 2 thirds of the money on tabacoo and a third on alcahol. Its my choice to smoke and drink its breaching my freedom to do what i want.
If they lose all this money on tabacoo and drink then wheres it going to come from, income tax will rise and so will N.I.
AS FOR ALL THE DOOGOODERS THAT SAY THEY ARE HAPPY WITH DONT YOU THINK IT WOULD BE BETTER FOR THE PUBS TO ADVERTISE THE FACT THAT THEY ALLOW SMOKING SO WE ALL HAVE A CHOICE WHETHER TO GO IN OR NOT.
You purists out there need to get real and let people live how they want to. If I want to smoke and drink and put myself into an early grave then let me do it its my choice.

I now live in Ireland and its not that bad
Quite funny actually, In Ireland you now get more people outside than In. The non smokers come outside to join in the chat with the smokers.
In the summer you can always get your own back. When the non smokers come outside to sit down. just tell them to F*ck off back inside this is the smokers area.

i think we are just going to have to smoke less, in some pubs in dublin where it is already banned, they have smoking buses outside the pubs and some even have stocks on the windows so you can put your head and arms outside the pub and technically you are not inside the pub, we will find a way!!
