They were born in our backyard, we found them and thier mother, we fed the mother and soon the kittens started eating the food also. The mother is very friendly. We have now adopted 2 of them a male and female, but still after weeks they still run from us and wont let us pick them up. However if they are laying down they will stay there if we slowly walk to them to pet them, but if they are up they run.The vet says they are about 6-8 weeks old. Can anyone give us some suggestions

You're doing everything right. Food and petting are what they need. They run because they're kittens, and have a lot of energy.

Time and patience. I have adopted many kittens/cats in my life. Let them come to you. Food helps. When you put the food out for them, sit by the bowl as they eat and stroke their heads. Soon they will identify you with pleasure and start to come around. Good luck and congratulations.

Keep on persisting. they are just wanting their mother by the sounds of it. But when they begin to see that mum trusts you and that you are not hurting them they will begin to start bonding with you. Just don't give up.

Be patient, very patient.
Be friendly with them, never quick movements. Feed them, and try to approach them, but very slowly. Talk to them, so they'll get accustomed to your voice too

A lot of young strays do that, but all I can say is just be patient and use positive reinforcement.
