Yep. When we drink alcohol, the tiny blood vessels at the surface of the skin dilate. This gives us that "rosy glow" we feel after a drink or two, and in some people patchy red blotches can show up on the face, chest, stomach, etc.
It's not a rash or anything, just a normal reaction to alcohol consumption. Some people just get redder/blotchier than others.

Well i do know that this happens to alot of Chinese people. It's because there is an enzyme in the body that can't break down the alcohol so it makes the skin blotchy. It's nothing to worry about. But if you ever go drinking with a Chinese person you will definitely see this happen. I live in Hong Kong and alot of people especially the gals won't drink because of this..they get very embarresd about it. poor little minx's.

I know someone who developed an allergy to alcohol. I suspect it is rare. It took her a long time to work it out. Doctors were not helpful, they just said dont drink!
Eventually she found that she could drink organic wine, everything else gave her a rash.
I wonder what you were drinking? Was it always the same thing?
I would try something different. Maybe you can drink some things and not others. Vodka maybe but not wine?

You may have developed an allergy to the alcohol....you can eat/drink something for years and then wake up one morning allergic....I suggest the following....
1. See a doctor.
2. Switch your drink..it may only be that kind of alcohol.
3. This is way too easy --- Stop Drinking

Hi there,
This happens to my Fiancee. She gets patches on her chest and neck. Especially when she drinks wine. It is really weird and it happens so fast you can watch it.
She's been to the Doc who told her it was just a reaction and in the 19 odd years I have known her there has been no problem. She thinks it makes her look silly but it has no adverse effect on her in any other way. I wouldn't worry too much although it is a pain.

In the liver an enzyme known as alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) converts alcohol to acetaldehyde. This substance is then converted to acetic acid and then metabolizes to carbon dioxide, water, and fatty acids. Some persons, especially those of Asian descent, experience a phenomenon knows as FLUSHING, or ALCOHOL-FLUSH reaction. Flushing is defined as a sudden onset of reddening of the skin, most often seen in the face or neck region. Some who experience flushing also complain of dizziness or nausea and vomiting. This reaction occurs when the production of the enzyme acetaldehyde is insufficient.

You have developed an allergy to alcohol. There really isn't anything you can do, but get it checked out at the doctors if you want. My fiance is also allergic to alcohol, but on the occasions that he does drink, he just puts up with it!

Don't forget that alcohol is a toxin and not a natural substance for the body to cope with.
Obviously the recommendation is going to be lay of the alcohol (boo) or perhaps try a different tipple?
