As for UN charters concern there is all rights provided for free movement of people, nations are protecting their own rights to avoid excess human trafficking in the name of economical migrant, refugees and asylum. For UK, New Zealand and Australia are providing HSMP visa (Highly Skilled Migration Program) by evaluating their English language. Regarding the illegal migrants, they are violating the land law, hence there is lot of legal options to eliminate them from the terrritory. But the states do not have the right to expell any person from the territory until the person find a new place for living. Since global population is shrinking very fastly (even in India and China), population accumulation will be helpful for any nation. But planning for the excess population is neceessary to manage the welfares of the citizens. If the population is decreasing as like the present decade, within three generations, we could expect sharp decline in population growth. Hence give some space for migrants and encourage them to live as a legal immigrant by expertising in local language and standards. Because humanity is superior than any other things in the civilized society, illegal migrants are moving towards the civilized society only.

Nope. Why should they? Are people here that cowardly?

This "make 'em learn English" movement really makes the United States look bad, like we're afraid of anything that moves. I think we're better than this.

Cpin also makes an excellent point. Should we strip citizenship from current citizens who haven't learned English? Perhaps we should have people take a test of the English language when they turn 18, and if you fail, you're outta here? That'd mean taking citizenship from quite a few people here on Yahoo Answers. If you're not willing to do that, you really don't have a case with respect to new citizens and the English language.

I'd suggest citizens should learn THEIR OWN language first. I'm afraid "illegals" will know better English than the average citizen.

I am not sure all americans would pass the test. From what I see on this site, many of them don't know the english language much better. If you listen to them, you are convinced (limited vocabulary, accent, etc.). So maybe some citizenships should be taken away in order to be fair.

Technically the USA has no official language but i think we should make it English and that all immigrants should have to learn it.
