should we breathe in while moving up or moving down? is there any formula for breathing that apply to almost all exercises?...reply sought from professionals only

Well being that I am in the US Army and have been doing pushup everyday for 7 years, I have found that is it good to breathe out while moving up and in while moving down, just make sure you are breathing, I see alot of soldiers that hold their breath while doing pushups, remember those muscles need oxygen to function properly and at a high level
