I was in the military during the Viet Nam War. The powers that be decided not to send me, even though I volunteered. Al Gore went, and his own father, who was in the legislature was against the war. John Kerry went, and he wasn't elected either. Looks like the other two, who became president, were just too good to go. Like most of the conservatives on TV, Radio, and politics, just too good to get dirty. By the way, I knew quite a few people, when I was in that came from rich families, that enlisted, and were enlisted men. Some even stayed in as a carrer. But a lot of people I knew back in the world, were just not willing to take time out of their life to take a few years out of their life to serve. I even served with a concientious objector, that volunteered for the draft. Recruiters met their goals during that time, even with the draft. When Reagan got elected, there was less people that signed up, than during the Carter presidency. More AWOLs during the Nixon Ford years.
