I can't think of a reason anybody would do that. I know people who don't practice their religion because they don't like it all that much and maybe it doesn't meet their spiritual needs very well so they aren't all that into it. I know people who don't want to make others uncomfortable so they aren't mouthy about their religion. This isn't pretending or denying, this is just common courtesy or personal preference.
I don't think pride is a good emotion to associate with religion but this is just my opinion. I guess if you consider simply having a religion as a personal accomplishment you may feel proud of it. A lot of atheist pretend to be Christians or believer of some religion to fit in. Others are proud of being atheist because they feel they have overcome oppression to express their beliefs.

Here is a little song for you:
I'm Christian and I don't care who knows it,
There's something about me that's not the same, yeah,
I'm Christian and that's the way it goes,
I'm not going to play your non-believing games....

You caught me! I have been pretending all this time. I was just scared that someone would find out and then the Atheists would ask me questions I could not answer.

I am a Christian. I don't pretend not to be.
I would say that 99.99% of the time, this isn't even an issue.
I don't drink/smoke.
A simple "I don't drink/smoke." is enough.
Same thing with everything else anyone.

I think a better question might be: "How many of you say you're Christian, but, according to actual Christianity, aren't."
