I've seen many people on here have very stereotypical views of Christians which are greatly misguided and foolish, have any of you felt this aswell?

Ok to you all going on about "Freedom of Speech" I agree with "Freedom of Speech" and believe that everyone should have their own say on a matter however "Freedom of Speech" does not give people the right to insult a particular group and I have seen it with other Religions aswell. As I have only just realised my foolishness and recently turned the Christian faith I find it highly annoying when I hear words that once would've come from me and I have seen many occurances of this in a very short time! And yes Christians may try to convert you as that is our belief like or hate but thats what we're here for! There's no need to insult someone because they are putting across their point of view!

I can turn away and ignore basic critism but out right insult is not on especially when it comes from those hidden behind a computer screen and hiding their email so that we cannot give them our point of view. Yes Christians are supposed to take critism and mocking but don't hide behind your computer and mock us and don't hide your email because you don't want someone to be able to tell their side of the story, come out in the open, allow people to tell their side and then mock! I know we Christians are baadly represented but i see much more hostility towards Religious people than towards Atheists. I do not go around preaching the gospels and telling everyone they are going to hell if they don't convert but I do go around trying to correct misguided fools, which I used to be!

yes, i hear u! it is obviously noticeable on here.... i think it is very rude and mainly, the person attacking u (4 no reason) is usually either jealous or threatened by u. and no the mslims and the jews don get that many offenses!! and no attacking somebody is not in any form, freedom of speech!! but hey! u know wat is the ultimate way to piss off ur attackers? its by simply ignoring them, just like i do!
Peace!

Some one has already said "atheists don't believe in anything" Totally wrong! atheist don't believe there is a God, full stop, they (we) can and maybe do believe in the tooth fairy, we just don't believe in God!
As for your comment on "stereotypical" views on Christians, most atheists know what Christianity means , which is more than can be said for most so called Christians!
Just from reading this forum for a couple of months it's simple to see they don't know what being a Christian means! Ask a Christian yourself, "What is a Christian"??
The answer is simple enough "A Christian is one who believes that Jesus was and is God: Jesus is his own Father and his own Son: Jesus is the Holy Trinity!!
How many of your Christians answering your question will know that?
And how many know that if they don't believe all that then they are NOT Christians?? Unless of course they think they can just suddenly announce "I am a Christian"??
You are correct we do have a "stereotypical" view, and it's a correct view.
No other religion on earth believes all that stuff, yes they all had Prophets, but none ever say their Prophet was and still is God!
I have made no attempt here to be "insulting" (I really do know how to do 'insulting' if I was a mind to)!
I am only trying to point out that if 'Christians' want to debate a point they should at least know what their own religion is all about, and at least be able to compare it with a few others!!

Everyone's stereotyped to a degree.
The problem is that there are so many 'christians' on the net who do fulfil the stereotype of believing dogma to extremes its sometimes hard to distinguish wood from the trees.
Christ was about spreading the word, and I think nigh on everyone in the west who's wanted to hear the word has done so. Sometimes by being too evangelical you turn away the very people you want to attract.
But by the same vein, aethiests and agnostics are stereotyped as 'hating religion', etc etc.
I'd say you were being overly sensitive. Freedom of speech does include freedom to poke fun - if you can't accept that then you have issues.

If you made a more thorough examination of stereotyping and general nastiness, you would probably find that the most harangued religion in Yahoo!Answers is Islam. Christianity, other religions, and atheism get their fair share of abuse, but do not appear to get the same level of mistreatment that Islam does. As for who is insulting whom, the respondents who are doing the abusing are much more likely to be Christians attacking people of other faiths and/or atheists. The real question is when are Christians going to own their legacy of abusiveness rather than always play the victim?

Get agrip buddy. Feeling sorry for yourself? If you actually want an answer to your "poor me" question , its because christians have stood on their pedestal and dictated their doctorine of "if you aint us, you aint nothing" for the last 1600 years. Yes 1600. Your religion was edited by a gay mad emporor and then forced upon the world with typical roman presicion. It has a deep seated hatred of everyone else and a greed that is only surpassed by hitler and musolini. It has killed more people than any other religion. It has stood by, IDLE, and witnessed the subjegation of all races and did it in the name of a bloke that you dont even know what colour he was. You spout dogma as if it were facts. You allow it to make sense because you are too weak minded and feeble to think for yourself. And if you dont belive me then think of this.
If I came to your house and told you that a guy that once lived, who we dont know anything about, in actual fact, other than he may have been black, or maybe white or an arab, was the son of a god I cant prove exists either died because he didnt like the romans and kept baiting them until they nailed him up, allegdedly, but we have no proof. He then came back to life, or not, depending on who you ask, to save YOU.
Im pretty sure that like all pedalars of rubbish, I would be told to get off your property.
christianity is a dirty cloth that wiped its infection across the world without thought or respect for anyone and anything, leaving a germ that has become a human killer.
You are misguided and foolish, but unfortunately you are not alone. Ask yourself one question. Why do you think the vatican is the richest piece of land on the planet? Because jesus wanted it that way? or because of the clever editing and the blood of men

That question also can be asked from the other side: "Who on here is a non-Christian and feels that others using Yahoo! Answers are overly insulting of non-Christians?"
There has been a ton of overly insulting post from both sides, with many calling themselves Christians also presenting stereotypical, misguided, and foolish views. So, don't act like it's just happening to you.

I believe that people always try and bring down those around them that have something that they have not got.
If you have a faith or a religion, christianity, Islam, Buddist what ever it may be if people outside that belief system mock it.
This may be because they are feeling that you have got something that they haven't.
Or they believe that you are following the wrong path, and should be following their religion, or have the same faith as them.
I don't think that it is just christianity that is being insulted, I think that religion, in general is viewed very badly in Yahoo! Answers

I know that we Christians on here do get quite a bashing but then again I feel quite sorry for the Muslims and Jews on here too as they get their fir share of the same thing too. I think that the "atheists" feel insecure about the fact that they have chosen to believe in nothing (takes alot of conviction you see) and find the only to make theselves feel better is to have a go at those who have a religion.
Also if all of us tried to hve sensible discussion instead of just ramming your beliefs down someone elses throat.
To Sargosis you can be a Christian and a Scientist too!

All religious followers are misguided. They want everlasting life and think that it's to be expected. Of course, we are no more than any other animal. We are just slightly more intelligent. There is no God. Christians are significant hypocrites as they claim to be non-violent but most of them live in a world where the poor starve or die from otherwise preventable causes. They hide behind non-violence to maintain a system of cruelty.

I'm not a Christian, but I've insulted a few. I think the problem is that the stereotypical view, at least in my circles, of Christians is something along the lines of "being an atheist means you really believe in a God." or "I'll pray for you.", which I do see quite a bit of on here.

I'm an agnostic, but I agree with you. There's a lot of anti-Christian sentiment here that really isn't at all deserved. I hate seeing it, honestly.
However, you have to acknowledge that you have a lot of very poor representatives of your faith on this site as well. When you have sixteen year old girls posting things like "i no GOD is reeal cuz i see HIM fore times ystrday he wuz sitting up in my room and if u dont blieve me ur going 2 HELL 2 burn wif satin" it reflects poorly on your religion to many who are without your faith. Our side unfortunately has equally fundamentalist idiots who misrepresent us as well, and all I can do is apologize for that.
In the end, I hope you'll ignore the knee-jerk Christian-haters, because I'm doing my best to ignore your witless prophets. I know most of you are reasonable, but the ones who aren't catch all the attention.
