the answer is yes. religious zealots use the fact that the poor consider religion a stable force in their life and so they use this fact to control them. also the poor are not as educated and so will be more likely to accept what they are told due to manipulation of the facts and the like. also these religious zealots tend to help the poor in menial ways which make them ' infalible' in the poors' eyes, and also indebted to them, which thus allows them to control them.
plus the poor and uneducated are looked after mainly by religious sects and so the way that we are brought up believing what our parents teach us so do they.

No, just as in criminology when they say "there are no absolutes.", here also there are no absolutes. It would seem that if you were uneducated, poor, and unemployed that one would be willing to join zealots that could provide education, money, and jobs when they join groups. However, there have been cases where people from all walks of life have become zealots, and for many different reasons. Many things act as a catalyst, but the real reason always changes depending on the individual. It could be religious, political, race, sex, class, etc.. Being zealous and having a deep passion for what you believe , when put to good use, is not all that bad. Just as the definition of "Fundamentalism" has changed over the years so to has this term.

The London bombers were working in semi skilled jobs, educated and lived in britian, I know someone else said this, but it needs to be reinforced.

People get confused as to what this whole 'war on terror' is about
Its a war not against a country or a group of people, its not even a war against a religion or an ideology.

It is a war for an ideology. I am the first to shout that equal rights, safety and free speech should be the core of any society, but these are just part of a western ideology, for which we are killing.

There are terrorists all around the worl, from Belfast to Beruit and everywhere in between.
Yes, it is true that people with little aspiration and lots of suffering can be convinced to blame a person/people a little easier than those in the safe and affluent west.
However, since this particular war is based on morals, convincing a moderate muslim to become a zealot is just as simple.
We all have our problems in life and if someone can point out someone to blame then better still for us.

Sociopaths, people who kill doctors performing abortions, thugs beating up strangers with nice suits, or teens robbing others of an ipod are all exhibiting the same anger at society

NO!

Germany before 1933 was technically and educationally one of the most advanced in the world beforte it fell under the Nazis (alright, not religious zealots, but certainly political zealots).

The bottom-line is that anyone can fall victim to extreme zealots of all sorts. The key factor is often injustice, real and/or percieved. Not just simply "poor".

The uneducated are indeed more susceptible to control, undoubtedly yes. History teaches us so.

But religious zealots or modern-day con artists can also get their way with very well-educated people by using highly sophisticated methods and techniques in their recruitments and indoctrination processes depending on their target prospects.

Peace be with you!

Yes. Part of education is developing the tools necessary to evaluate the information, undertake your own research, make a decision and carry it out. Without these skills you are far more susceptible to being brainwashed by religious zealots. However educated rich people can be brainwashed too!

More open than what?? If you look at the Fascist USA where elections are largely determined by the Christian right, their population is hugely undereducated but they live in absolute privilege as a result of the super-exploitated profits the system takes out of the third world. Having said that, control in the USA would appear to be less overt than in the third world. TV provides a means of mind-control as does the pliant (imperialist) media.

Not neccesarily. Some have very deep roots and a well-established religion that already that works for them. Those people will not accept some new zealot. If the religion is not meeting spiritual needs very well or the people are very vulnerable (for example, we'll feed you starving people just as soon as you abandon your ways and accept ours) then yes they are more open to whatever.
