Get an ultrasound. Then they can tell when the time is right for an x-ray to have an idea of how many.

Do you know when the breeding took place?????

Get an x-ray to find out the number and size. They'll give birth when their temperature goes up then returns to normal. But an x-ray will help. The vet can usually tell based on the density of the skeletons.

Usually a dog will lose it's appetite 12-24 hours before giving birth. And if you know how to take it's temp it will go up. Another sign is her "nesting," scratching around trying to find a warm safe spot to have them. This can happen a few days prior though.

Like what KEL said, she will start to scratch around for her nest. It is best to have her settled in a quiet, secured den with a fence-like structure (ex: A good sized - rectangular box). Have her in there when you think she is about to give birth. You should already have it set up, so when you begin to notice some scratching, place her gently in the den. She will know that this will be the safe place for her to give birth.

Hope this helps ^_^.
