what a load of crap, you have been reading those american history books again, they are in the fiction section of the library, the mexican govenment invited american citizens to texas to farm the area, but because they were made to pay mexican taxes(which is fair enough)they did not like it,so because of greed they decided that they would revolt and ask the american government to help them as then texas would become part of usa, they were also traitors to what was their country(mexico)and that included the so called allamo hero's,its funny because the americans done the same thing to britain a 100+years before,so to sum up,are americans to be trusted(i dont think so)

The whites living in Texas were actually more pissed that they had to pay a tariff to sell stuff in the US, because they weren't US citizens anymore (not to mention the Mexico doesn't allow slaves thing). So they rebel, claim Texas as being independent, and the Mexicans bring up their army to settle this rebellion.

The US then gets involved, and the Mexican war starts, and the US pretty much runs all over Mexico's army (even entering Mexico city). They could've pretty much have claimed all of Mexico's territories and today there'd be no "Mexico" the country, it'd simply be another US state (and then we wouldn't have that illegal immigration problem today). But the politicians back then were largely racist, and didn't want Mexicans becoming US citizens, so instead took a large chunk of land from the mexicans, and let them keep mexico.

Of course, technically speaking, Mexicans, while they are a mix of Spaniards and Native Americans, also stole their lands from the Native Americans for the most part (don't forget about Columbus slaughtering Haitians and chopping off their hands, or Cortez and him killing off millions of Aztecs, mostly unintentionally though, through disease), so they're hardly blameless on this matter either.

I've read that had disease not ravaged the Native Americans that much, Europeans probably wouldn't have been able to do what they did in the New World, and instead it'd probably be something more like how they occupied China and other parts of the world. The Native Americans largely had no immunity against diseases the Europeans brought over, so died en masse so that there wasn't much to resist the Europeans as they took over lands.

You are putting modern-day Mexicans at the same level of the indigenous people of Mexico when you say Spain took the land. It is true, Spain colonized Mexico, just like GB colonized the 13 colonies that eventually became the first states of the Union. The majority of Mexicans are mestizo, which is neither Spanish nor Native, but a combination of both.
The argument of land stealing is based partly on how Texas became a state. It did because colonists from the US began settling there in increasing numbers. Eventually they did declare independence from Mexico. Obviously this didn't sit well with Mexico, and thus Santana came and got his butt kicked, as you say. The rest is the product of Santana's defeat, and his surrender.
Now, many people who study history also know that US foreign policy has gone through stages of expansionism. The Panama Canal, for instance, is an example. The US pushed really hard for Panama to secede from Colombia, and then the effort was rewarded by ceding the administration of the Canal to the US. The US also "helped"Cuba become independent from Spain, and in return, Cuba pretty much became a dependency in everything but name. The US helped sort out the mess in Nicaragua during the early 20th century, and in return, it obtained control of the banking system, transportation, etc, making that country into another dependency in everything but name.
The point is that the US doesn't need to take land, since it can still gain control of the the things that matter.
I'm not surprised you're not aware of this. You strike me as the kind that is aware of selected bits and pieces of history.
To be fair, the Continental US' territorial expansion was also predicated upon the purchase of land, like the Luisiana purchase, and the purchase of Alaska and, if I'm not mistaken, Florida. As far as I know, no other country in the Americas managed that upon independence, so if anything, the US administered its resources more wisely that the latin americans, and it did find governments who were willing to part with the land for a price.
Mexico also had hopes to expand south, with Iturbide, who declared himself emperor shortly after independence, but that didn't succeed, the "empire" dissintegrated very soon when Mexico was declared a Republic. You probably weren't aware of that either, because as I said before, you read selected bits of history.

You're not thinking about the right time. And the U.S. stole Texas. Mexico asked the U.S. if some of the U.S.'s people wanted to go there they could to live there but they never said "Come on, we're giving you this land for free." Komodo's first paragraph has a point. When Americans say that Mexicans are rebelious look at who started it.

The "real" reason for that Land grab was "Manifest Destiny" and the inherent "Territorial Imperative" that drives all living creatures, including man.

Don't be so arrogant my friend, you ever here of "Imminent Domain"? Our Government can take your land for the "Good" of the community. Sound familiar? Well it should, since it's just another euphemism for "Manifest Destiny". So, if you think your land is safe, think again :-)
