I've noticed you're thoughtful and a reader. Dating back to the 1940's, there have been several important studies on American sexuality and behavior in relationships. The Kinsey Report is both an important piece of historical sociology and an important piece of scholarship you should look through.
Today a substantial percentage of American men and women admit to at least one extramarital sexual encounter or sustained "affair." "Cheating" is probably not really much more prevalent now than in the past (there are good reasons to think that in middle class and wealthy families of the 1800's and before, men frequently "cheated" and women had no choice but accept it). However, that dodges the main question.
I personally find celebrities boring and uninteresting, and do not follow the gossip columns. So if there's published opinion or speculation about what was done, I haven't seen it. Neither, apparently, have any of the other people who answered you here, Laura. Many men find excitement in "the chase" or "the conquest," a kind of competitive sexuality (you remember all those braggarts in high school and college). Others after time, especially in homes with smaller children, discover their wives are not as interested in sex or as attentive to them as they once were - and don't understand how to adapt to changing conditions of a relationship. Some men don't realize that for a time their role is more of mate, protector and provider, rather than the household god, object of adoration and subject of his wife's lust in every waking moment. (Two of my best friends today are as hot for each other as teens, now that their daughter has grown up and moved away. It's so cute!) And some men indeed get bored and want new excitement.
I can't comment on any of these or other factors in Christie Brinkley's marriage. Only her husband actually knows - and apparently he's not telling US.

Beauty is only a false image of a person, what lies is deep inside, and that what attracts and keeps up the bond. If from inside she is not good who cares if she is a super model. On the contrary maybe he is stupid cheater.
