AVG Antivirus, Ad-aware, Spybot Search and Destroy. Use google to find the appropriate website for downloading.
Also, defragment your hard drive to access files quicker.
You may also want to look into reinstalling your OS, which I suppose is Windows XP or something of that nature.

Try searching at download.com and filehippo.com, for starters...both have strict no-spyware policies, and will tell you if you're going to get adware with your downloads. If you're running Windows, you might want to check out Windows Marketplace (it's one of the shortcuts, and I think you can get it on Microsoft's home page too)...for download.com, search for free licenses, and at Marketplace, sort by lowest price...
Most of the programs I've seen suggested by other answerers here, particularly the antivirus/antispy ones, I'd certainly recommend as well

Do a web search on a program called "XP tweak". It lets you change any possible aspect of Windows. Good luck.

Try freeregistryfix.com--6mega bite down load,fixes first 50 problem free,delete.Go to registry editor and delete it there to.Reinstall,and start over 2 fix more.It will make your windows fly.
