Actually, I live in New York City and I have always pronounced is HYOO-STON, street or city. Yes, there is a Houston street. It's on the south part of Manhattan island.

No. It doesn't bother me. There is a Houston in England. I believe it means House Town. If you are offended because you come from Texas where there is the very large city, Houston, you have to remember that was named for a man. And when you think about it, Houston looks more like it should be prounounced house tun than hyoos tun. I have no problem with it being pronounced hyoos tun either.

Yes... I went there for a lil vacation one weekend and asked where Houston St. was.. They say House-tin..
It's because they're yankees... They don't know how to talk...
They can't pronouce r's.. They replace r's with woo sounds...
They're just weird... Which is why I prefer to live in the south, or at least away from New England.

Are you from Houston? No, I could care less. It's not worth getting pissed off just because a different part of the nation doesn't pronounce something like me.

A Texan went to New York City for the first time and that was the thing that was most memorable? Boy, have you lived an uneventful life!!
Should I be insulted when all Texans pronounce my home state "Ore-ee-gawn" instead of "Or-i-gun?" Find something more important to complain about.

Some New Yorkers think everyplace but NYC and LA are teeny little hick towns. They have probably never heard of Houston.
New Yorkers have a completely different perception of what "Quality of Life" means than most Americans. To them, if you don't live in NYC you have no quality of life.

No because that's the name of the street.
I'm sure if they were talking about the city in Texas it would be a different story.

Lets run some northern names by you and see how badly you massacre the pronunciations.
