That's tough, I don't let my mom (or anyone else I know personally) read my writing, I let strangers read it on fictionpress.com but that's it. My mom hasn't ever asked to read my writing, occasionally she asks what I'm writing or what it's about. I always say it's not done, or give some vague general idea, sorry this isn't very helpful. Maybe there is one you could share with her or explain to her your not ready to let anyone read them yet. Make sure to let her know that it's not only her who your not letting read your poetry, that it's everyone...good luck.

It sounds like these poems are more like a diary than poems. In that sense, it is your call alone. If things are in there that could hurt her, then it seems obvious there are things in your past that are still hurting you. The only way you would hurt her, then, is by sharing your pain. Sometimes that can drive a person away, other times it can make the relationship stronger. It all depends on the relation between you 2, of which there is very little info to go on here.

write your mother some poems for her, she just wants to get to know you my daughter wrote poems and it helped her get though some pretty tough stuff she had some she let me read and some she keep to her self some hurt to read but helped us deal with things together she is now 25 (12-20 then) and we are close now It could be a good thing if handled right

Well eventually she's going to need to know. Personally, tell her that you love her and value her opinion, but that you feel uncomfortable sharing your poetry with anyone. But if you did share it with someone she would be the one you came to. Tell her that her inspiration and support mean the world to you, but you're just not ready to share them yet.
Then just to soften it - write something that's just for her. One thing. Tell her she's the only one in the world that gets to read it, and it's hers to keep. Take a piece of paper and write down - I love you more than words can express.

Separate the ones that are private from the ones that are not and show her those. If they are all private, you can either be honest with her or follow Andrea's advice and write some more that aren't.

write something quickly that isnt personal, something that isnt spilling your soul onto paper. I always did that kind of thing. Make a back up set of poetry/artistic writing works that are impersonal and you should be fine. Good Luck and Blessed Be.

It's okay to tell her that they're private...she'll understand. Tell her that you'll write some that she can read...and then do it.
