HIV is transmitted via blood or other body substances, NOT i repeat NOT including saliva. If they have a bleeding cute you should take great care in treating the cut, by that i mean keep latex gloves around, do not go out of the way to make it seem like you are scared it will damage the child's self image. Treat the cuts on their hands and let them heal. there is no way you can get it any other way than the ways stated above. Good luck and be safe. You are very good people for doing that.
I should also state that you cannot get it from sweat, blood transmission is nearly the only way short of sexual intercourse but that isn't possible at this age so just be careful of the cuts.

You are perfectly safe as long as there is not blood flowing from one of the HIV infected children's wounds into an open/bloody wound on either you or your wife. The HIV virus could then possisbly be transmited because it is carried through blood, but NOT sweat OR saliva (in large/dangerous amounts). Get the children the best medical care available to you and try to keep them healthy; get those hands healed and find out about their cough also. Check with your social worker who is helping with the adoption what medical programs are avialable to you for these kids and stay on top of their healthcare, so little problems don't become big ones before you know it.
Soon enough you'll have a new baby to love along with your toddlers and you will be busier than you ever believed, but what a rewarding, fun, exciting time you will have.

You'll only get HIV if you exchange blood with them, have intercourse with them (I frankly hope you aren't that sick), or exchange about a litre of saliva.
It really has to be direct contact with infected bodily fluids. Otherwise, you are not running any risk whatsoever.

I really don't know but the whole open wound stuff doesn't sound too good. It does transfer through blood and that's about all I know. Sorry.

no you cannot get AIDS by sleeping next to them.... yes it is transmitted through body secretions but not sweats.. it is called parenteral like through blood likethe use of infected needles thats why it happens to drug users and newborn babies with mothers infected by it.... it is less likely that you would get it.....
i totally salute you for your kindness though. dont worry about it.
