Honestly, don't listen to those who would demand things of you, even here. Live your life, and seek your own way. Learn the difference between lessons and dogma. Learn what your religion and your "god" are trying to teach you, and ignore those who would try to tell you what you are "supposed" to be learning.
Honestly, I am an atheist, but I believe that everyone has the right to believe, in their own heart and mind, whatever is right for them. We live in the most enlightened time in history. You have access to more resources, more books, more people than at any time in recorded history. Use it. This is a good first step.

To answer properly would require that I know more about what your heart finds to be the obstacle.
I think that perhaps the image of God as portrayed by the religious community or sector that you have been exposed to is not compatible with your perception or reality, of life, of the nature of the universe.
Look further. Don't let a narrow description of what God is dissuade you from finding the many others that exist.
Think about it: God by definition is the maker of all things, the creator of this wondrous universe in all its granduer, complexity and multifaceted beauty. It is not possible for any one human view of such a being to be comprehensive and definitive, no matter what book it is derived from.
If you look deeper, I suspect you will find some aspect of God that resonates with your experiences and conceptualization of what our lives mean, what purpose they may have.
Good luck.

The first question is, Why? If god is not now in your life, how do you think your life might be improved by some particular aspect of a godly presence? Unless you can come up with a good reason, and establish by competent evidence (by which I emphatically do NOT mean books such as bible, qur'an, etc.) that such a presence will in fact improve your life, you should simply go on as you are. Many people seem to feel that the notion of a god watching over gives them comfort, but of course such a notion is totally unproveable.

As for the first persons answer: bad idea. It leads to a life void of purpose and dangerous arrogance. I had a bit of the same problem. I was brough up a Catholic Christian, but I couldnt never get myself to believe in Christianity. Instead I said I was an atheist, but It didn't give me any sense of fullfillment. I went around researching other religions like Bhuddism (which I found peaceful yet too self centered), Judasim (which I found too exclusive), Zoroastrianism (which I found also exclusive), Sikhism (I wanted to be able to cut my hair every one in a while) and finally Islam which I settled on. I personally saw it as the best choice and i suggest you look into it. Just don't get the idea that I'm trying to convert you. I would suggest looking through different belief systems to find one you can accept. I would also suggest reading material on religions written by people of that religion as they would have the best understanding of it and would not feed you false information.

I have the same problem. It's like I want to believe...my heart wants to believe, but there's that something holding me back. I don't know what it is. I know I believe in God, but past that, I'm not sure.
To help me find my faith, I think I'm going to start by talking to someone close to me that knows a lot about the subject. Also, feel free to contact a pastor or preacher, explain your situation and just tell them you'd appreciate them answering some questions for you....then ask whatever it is that's causing your doubt.
Pray....pray that he'll make himself known in your heart. Even if you don't feel like anyone's listening, if your heart is in the right place and you truly want to believe, I think he'll come through. I haven't really tried that yet. Maybe I should....

Finding God is a life long journey. It doesn't happen overnight. If your heart won't let you, then use your mind to communicate with your idea of God in the best way you can. If you need to forgive yourself and/or others, say so to God. Eventually you will have reached God. He helps those who are "poor in spirit." Best wishes.

You have to break down the barriers in your heart. You have to submit yourself to God. Pray to Him sincerely with an open heart and mind and ask Him into your life. Ask Him to forgive your sins and then repent(apologize to those you have harmed with actions or words) and turn from sin and the Lord will enter your life. Show Him you love Him by doing the above things and that you will put your trust in Him. Your heart will open up and you will never regret the day you ask the Lord into your life.

Not sure what you mean. It's real simple to ask Jesus into your life. When you are ready tell Him you are sorry for the things you have done in your life that are contrary to God's ways and that you now want to belong to Him.
You will need fellowship in your life to help you grow is this something your husband would disagree with? If so let hubby know that you want to check out some churches in the area and don't try to force anything on Him but see if He will come with or watch the kids while you go.
Don't let it interfere with your relationship to your husband. but seek God for your sake, his and the kids.
God bless and keep you in His tender arms tonight. G'night.

God's defiantly knocking on your heart.
The key is brokenness. God loves a broken heart. Reach back behind your pride and cry out to God to soften your heart. Sometimes it's our own stubbornness that keeps us from the fulfilling life Jesus has for us. Pray for a new heart.

the spirit is willing but the flesh is rebellious. It is hard to let go of yourself and start walking in the the spirit. I hope I am not talking over your head. Not that your stupid or anything. It is just two different worlds so to speak. I found it hard to let go and trust God. It takes time and God knows that. He will be patient if you keep trying. Keep seeking and asking Him for help. I was 28 before I really let go. It is hard to walk away from all your habits and customs.
