I mean if there is one true religion and 1 true god, then why aren't we all of the same religion? why did god create so many different (and conflicting) religions?

Your answers are all very good, but you're forgetting something very important- the power of god. Don't you see? My question is very simple. If God wanted to, he could have created mankind, and pre-fixed a religion for him to follow. Why didn't he do that? God has the power to control us doesnt he? Yes. So why didn't God 'converge' us along the path that leads to a religion that is the only religion, and which talks of only him and his only teachings of what is right and wrong and so on? Why did he allow us to create our own religions and destroy ourselves, instead of living in peace. Why did he allow us to separate ourselves instead of being united? Why?

I LOVE your question! True, religions are man-made, but if there is one God and he/she made all men/women, then it follows he/she could make all men/women the same, as in following the same belief systems. Right? Why not?
But, some God out there apparently gave mankind freewill. But which one and why? It's like our life cycle - a never ending circle. That's why there's no real answer to your question. Sigh...

If you examine all of the world's religions regarding their take on philosophy, theology, the afterlife, and salvation ALL of them except Christianity put forth the idea that man can earn his way into Heaven by being good and doing good things for his fellow man. ONLY Christianity and Judaism say that Heaven can't be earned. Both of these religions take the view that God is Holy, and that sin (or the rebellion of people against God's law) seperates them from Him. Both the Old and New Testament state that the penalty for sin is death - not the lingering, oh I'll die in fifty years death, but rather an instantaneous death. What a BUMMER! How could a loving God, who created man with His own hands destroy his own creation? Well, He doesn't. Rather than having you die, God allows us to use a substitute to pay for our transgression. The Hebrews sacrificed animals - primarily the best lamb - as their substitute. However, God said that He would provide a better system later, that would take the place of animal sacrifice - His son. Christians believe that Jesus is the Son of God, who led a sinless life, and whose death on the cross provided the substiutionary sacrifice that is required for our sin. Christians believe that you can't earn your way into Heaven. Even on my BEST day my accomplishments don't impress God - His accomplishments far outshine mine. But Heaven is still available, all you have to do is ask. Really it's much easier than trying to lead a good life - all you have to do is agree with God about sin, and admit how it affects your life. Then you have to believe that Jesus is who He says He is, and that He conquered Death with the Resurrection. Then live your life according to the principles established by God. Will you make a mistake? Sure, everyone has, but only Christians know that when God judges the world those mistakes will be forgiven. Hope this helps clarify things.

Firstly, God created only the first human pair who only knew God. He did not create people of various religions. Over time, after the Fall, mankind has multiplied and many rejected belief in the true God and exchanged that knowledge to worship the created things. With the differences thus came the various religions.

There is only one true religion. All others are just counterfeits created by man. This life is all about free agency, the opportunity to choose for ourselves between good and evil. If God forced us to all follow the one religion then he would violate the whole purpose of our existance here on earth. It is up to us to use discernment and to find the one true religion. God has provided us with a conscience to help us discern good from evil. He has also provided us with the power of prayer which if we use will guide us in our quest. If we are unable to find the one true religion during this life, but sort earnestly for it and did the best we could according to the knowledge that we had, God will not hold us accountable and we shall obtain our reward.

God NEVER created people of different religions, man did. Those that don't believe in God separated themselves and started their own religions and those that don't agree with that religion started another and so on. God has nothing to do with the different religions.

Gos didnt create the diferents religions. That was the work of humans just like you or me triying to find some explanation of this caos. But they didnt took the real (and harder) row.
The true nature of God lies in you. You have your path, and the most precios gift that "it " gave to you was the power of doing something, the power of knowing the truth. You are a little peace of God, and only in your soul you will find the peace that requires to have a good life. (Sorry for my english, im from Costa Rica and i don t speak english very often).

There is no such creator God who would mess with creating an Israeli and a Palestianian who would massacre each other for centuries, while He watches the show from up above, seeing what the third God believer's role is in supplying the weapons to one of them.
God is love, not an individual
Until one comes to know and feel and be this Love, one is very far far away from even knowing this God.

This is a good one that took me years to fully comprehend, religious are MANS creations and God permitted them to allow man a broader and multiple path to understanding, we are actually all trying to head in the same direction "any road will lead you there".
There is one truth about God he is our father and despire our beharior he wants us all to reamin a family, we create evil (religion) and he creates a environment for each religion to help us out of our stupidity and in this process we have our moments of understanding and ultimately find our way though.
We find ourselves born into our religions and social orders and familys per a complex design by him in hopes that circumstances that come about by the combination of events will give us a fulfilling life experience and not leads us too astray as to lose site of the faith we have in him.
We decided to be the masters of our house and God saw that fit, sin brought this about and he wanted to see his chidren grow despite the fact that he knew we would mess things up big time, yet he allowed jesus, moses, mohammed, and even fidel to be what they were because the whole equation would in the long run save our butts when the **** hit the fan for the last time.
So we take what evil we and our beasts (religion, society) have created for us and keep the faith and in our journey eventually find our way closer to our creator our father our god.
AND a note: We objectify everything cause we live in a finte world with finite understandings, we call an apple an apple yet that is impossible since no two apples are EXACTLY the same, if not on a molecular level then an atomic and now quark level so we objectify GOD as 1, when he is of one entity his infinite nature makes it impossible for our limited finite mind to truly understand in this mortal lifetime, we might in fact be parts of gods body making us "god-like" but certainly not God and we all know love, compassion, understanding all exist in our minds and bodys and so does Cancer yet even cancer is part of the body when kept in check.

If there is ONE God than there could be MANY Gods. That is what I found most intriguing in a philosophy class that I took.
Also, who said that there is one true God, a book that was written by man? A book that has been rewritten and translated time and time again? There is a lot of information that is lost during translations.
