My ex is getting out of prison soon and he was very abusive ( already asked for advice on that particular question). Anyhow, i need to know where i can move to safely. I was going to move in with my sister but she says wait for about a month or two until her and her boyfriend separate. I dont have time to wait, really need to go now. My father is dead and my mother is from another country so i have no other family here. Where do i go from here. Does anyone know of a good shelter for women with children. What are good peaceful, pleasant cities for raising two small boys, ages 6 and 9. I need results quick.........

Go to a small town (30,000) and join a church where people will look after you. A town of 30,000 should have a shelter. You could probably talk with a police officer or child service person, they would have a list. I don't think shelter give out addresses.

Get a restraining order and tell the cops, they may do a stake out and if he comes after you he would end up back in jail.

In NY they have a lot of nice shelters or so I have heard, but I don't think this is a good town to raise kids. I would go to somewhere quiet, like PA or FL... But do you have the money to do this? Look up your state's government website and search help for victims of domestic violence, or call 311 they could probably help you finding a good shelter or somewhere safe to go.

There are just so many choices of cities but it really depends on how far you want to get away from your ex. Choose somewhere far enough without breaking the bank. Consider how much family and friends support you will be needing. Maybe instead of moving away just get a restraining order again him so he can't be within so and so feet near you.

The trouble with looking for the ideal city to try to get into a shelter is that you have to establish residency in the state (perhaps in the city) before being allowed space in the shelter.

Your best best would be to call your local domestic abuse hotline. You may be able to get space in a battered women's shelter. They also may be able to help you obtain a restraining order so perhaps you won't have to move.

Good luck.

Umm - What state are you in? Look in the phone directory or go to http://www.whitepages.com and look up shelters in your area. Call your local hospital and ask to speak to someone they can probably tell you where to call or go!
