It is an autoimmune disorder with different forms, it sounds like you may have SLE or systemic lupus. a Rheumotolgist that specializes in lupus is a very good idea to kepp in contact with. Basically lupus is the immune system gone arwy your body attacks itself. The prednisone you take suppreses your immune system and is supposed to reduce symptoms and damage by the over stimulated immune system lupus suffers have. Diet, excerise, and stress reduction can greatly help symptoms. There is no cure for Lupus at this time but symptom control and relief is possible. Honestly you need to see a specialist and get better treatment. Lupus can be deadly is it attacks kidneys and other structures. Try a support group and inform yourself as much as you can. Knowledge is power and can save and improve your health. http://www.lupus.org/ Good luck, remember you are a surviver!

Lupus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease that can affect virtually any system in the body. Think of it as a 'self-allergy' where the body attacks its own cells and tissues, causing inflammation, pain, and possible organ damage. Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease that can affect several parts of the body, including the skin (with its characteristic butterfly shaped allergic lesions), joints, blood, kidneys and possibly other organs. Lupus is an auto immune disorder where the body´s immune system has lost its ability to distinguish between natural antigens (the body´s enemies such as bacteria, viruses and foreign materials) and its own cell tissues. So it is your own immune system that is actually causing the pain, inflammation and injury to your tissues.
Lupus can now be treated without any side effects. Please check the below link for more details on it. (www.organichope.com)

Lupus is a connective tissue disease. It is in the arthritis and fibromyalgia family.
If you are not seeing a rheumatologist, I would see one ASAP.
Prednisone is not good for long periods of time and can do more tissue damage. Also, lupus affects other organs so you need to see a Dr. that treats lupus. Look up your local Lupus society they can offer info and support.
Good Luck

hi.. lupus is most common in women in their 20s and 30s. With treatment, a patient will normally be fine and have a normal life with no medication as the disease should go into remission. The disease is basically an overactive immune system where the body sort of becomes allergic to different bits of itself. I don't think you can catch it as it seems to just occur in individuals. Symptoms can include hair loss, fever, fatigue and aching pain in any part of the body. Many people do not know much about the disease - be supportive of your girlfriend and help her through
