You always hear about how nice some mass murderer was. You can be nice and be a terrible person. Just wondering other peoples' opinions. ;-)

There are few words that I detest, but "nice" (flinch) is one of them. "Oh, the weather is nice," (flinch) "Oh, why don't you meet a nice girl," (flinch) and as you note - sometimes mass murders and other really-not-so-nice (flinch) people are described as being "nice" (flinch).

So yep, I think that nice (flinch) is overrated.

'Nice' isn't overrated, just overused. Saying a mass murderer was nice isn't being honest about the situation. More likely the mass murderer was someone who allowed everyone else to walk all over them until they finally snapped. Being 'nice' is how you treat others, not how you let others treat you. Everyone should be nice, no one should be another persons rug to be walked all over.

you are right, some of the nicest people in this world can be some of the most conniving, manipulative, people when they are given even just a lil power....in fact, its pretty common today. loyalty is something brought about through pain and struggle and has little to do with how someone presents themselves. so yes, first impressions are overrated, however being nice is a key asset to success. But yes, most people will stab you in the back if necessary.

Not at all, because you never know when someone you were nice to could be a good resource later on down the road. It's almost being fake, but it's for the greater good.

A person can preach nice and kill you all the way to your grave.

A preson can preach love and kill you all the way to your grave.

You preach Truth and if your killed, it is not from nice, but Truth.

Is capital punishment nice? It is Truth. You live by the sword, you die by the sword. It's called Truth.

Truth comes before love. Preach Truth, and love will follow.

In my opinion nice cannot be overrated. It is a quality of goodness and decency...or correct if pertaining to inanimate objects

That's what my mom used to say about the girl next door, "She's such a nice girl, you should marry a girl like that..." If mom only knew...

I think it's that kind of "nice" with ulterior motives that is bad. There's certainly nothign wrong with genuinely being nice.

Overrated? Nah.
The Dalai Lama said it better than I could, "My religion is very simple, my religion is kindness".
