"Boy" is a familiar term used to insinuate that you are more mature than they, or that you are otherwise superior or have authority over them.
Which, if you're jumping directly into the ad hominem, that would suggest you are not more mature.

It really depends on the person. One friend refers to himself as "the Jew" of our group, however, another Jewish person I know REALLY takes issue with that phrase. Ask the person first.
