Why are are boys discouraged from becoming sissys at a young age. Does this not say that a woman is not as valuable a person overall because of her femininty?

It is sadly a double standard within our society today... so many things have gone forward in society, all due to forward thinking by people, yet this is one area where too many people are unable to think laterally, and with acceptance....

That is why, as early childhood teachers we do our best to break down this stereotype, encouraging inclusive play of all activities by all children. Hopefully our youth will be able to grow up to break this stereotype a little more in our generation, and they pass it on to the next generation to break it down even further!

In a way, yes. My mother was a tomboy and it was fine with everyone. My brother was once caught playing with my doll and feeding it and cuddling it and everyone in my family became a little concerned. I would say that it is okay for a girl to be a tomboy, but not okay for a boy to be a janegirl. It just seems awkward for some people to see. I would not mind if it were my son being that way, but when he goes to school it may be a cause for concern, because I remember how boy used to act around people who were different and it can be Hell.

It's just our society. Its the double standard. Like the fact that a guy that get's laid tonight is a stud and looked up upon, but a chick that gets laid a lot is a s lut and looked down upon. Unfortunately, its just what this society expects.

Because when most people have kids they don't hope that he turns out gay and a sissy is a pretty close step to being gay. You don't want to confuse the kid either plus it's just wrong.

Because our society is WHACK! Rosie Grier {ex-football star} used to do needlepoint...I never heard anyone question his masculinity. Children should be allowed to play the way they like to play, not the way society feels they should play..unless they are doing something dangerous of course.

Because people think that guys should be "muscular and brave..etc" so if someone sees a guy sewing or something they'll think he's gay, that may be socially acceptable in other societies but people aren't used to it so they think its "weird"
