Hello. First off- I am sorry for their loss-a horrible thing. Secondly- my older brother just suffered a house fire last month. 2 of his familiy's pets died, and while the house was not completely destroyed, they cannot live in it currently.
What has helped them is this. Another family member was going to put them up untill their house could be repaired. This was only for 2 weeks-they will move on to his wife's family temporarily. Also, we are "passing the Hat" among our family to offset the expenses for motel's/apartments. The family is sending money to his family. (families are great this way!) Another way we are helping is to donate our clothing and food, and many other small necesities (razors, blankets, dishes)
All in all, anything you CAN do like the above is a big help, but make sure you aren't the only ones who care about the fire victims. Shame some others into it if you need to, call in some favors(-I have one relative who won't help).
I sincerely hope this can give you some ideas, and your ideas can restore their Hope.
Good Luck! and keep them happy as long as you can during this rotten event.

If you have a good red cross center in your area, call them first for help. Then set up a neighborhood donation drive. Take about twenty empty coffee cans with a picture of the family on it and a short description of their need and put them in gas stations on the counter near the register (so it can't be stolen) to collect money. Contact your local hotel/motel/bed and breakfast, etc. and ask them to donate accomodations for the family. Contact your local newspaper and have them do a story on the family, then set up a bank account and direct all monetary donations to be sent there. You'd be surprised how many americans are willing to donate for legitimate causes. Alot of times, all you have to do is ask. Good luck.

Churches in the area often pull together in situations like this- even when they were not a member. Go to multiple congrations, as every bit will help no matter where it comes from. Good luck, and God bless for doing that for them!
