Okay, I never really started drinking until this past year. I'm not a lush or anything, but whenever I go out with my girlfriends or boyfriend every now and then for a drink, I'm not sure what else to order besides the basics. It kind of gets boring after a while, and again, I'm not very well versed in alcohol at this point, but I do have my favorites. And I don't like beer. Have tried and tried again, and it just repulses me. So that's not an option. And shots are a pretty obvious choice too.
What kind of of drinks do you like to get when you go out?

My favorites are:
SeaBreeze (Stolys vodka, cranberry juice, twist of lime)
Chocolate Banana (Banana liquer, banana, chocolate liquer, vanilla ice cream)
Kahlua and cream (Kahlua liquer, half & half)
Always eat first, so there is something to protect your stomach lining and slow the absorption of alcohol. And definitely alternate an alcoholic drink and a 'virgin' drink with lots of water in it. I don't like ordering drinks with 'sex' or 'screw' or other suggestive words in the title, either. A lot of drinks that taste good are surprisingly potent. Just keep in mind the Dorothy Parker poem:
I wish I could drink like a lady,
I'll have one or two at the most.
Three and I'm under the table,
Four and I'm under the host

You already have some great options for drinks but here's a few more that I haven't heard yet. Based on what you've stated you don't like "harsh" tasting stuff like beer...I understand as I'm the same way so here's a few options that work for me that might for you too...
1. On mixed drinks...Ask the bartender at the given bar you are at what some good, light, mixed drinks are and what all blender drinks they make. Explain that you want to try something new but not too harsh and most will be more than willing to give you suggestions based on what they've tried and what their customers like.
Here's a mixed drink that I enjoy that isn't too harsh when made right. A Liquid Cocaine is good and smooth packs a better punch than a daquiri...
2. Think about "Girl Beer" (what my friends call "Beer-Not") such as Smirnoff Ice or some other brand of wine cooler type "beers". Personally, I hate beer as well and even though they cost more than regular they have a great flavor. Mine personal fav is the Bacardi O3, the new Bacardi Silver Peach, and the Smirnoff Green Apple...Try some different ones and see what you think!

Long Island Ice Tea is great but very potent, be careful with these. Margaritas are good too - the usual lime or lemon mix is rather tart but really good and they make strawberry ones too. Bloody Mary is a good drink but made with tomato juice which some people don't like (I do). Vodka (top shelf) with cranberry juice and possibly Red Bull is good. Then there is always the screw driver made simply with vodka and orange juice. White wine is probably best if you don't drink that often. Zinfandel or Chablis should be pretty good for you.

The so-called Called Fru Fru Drinks:
Sex on the Beach
Fuzzy Navel
Sloe Comfortable Screw
More Classic Drinks
Whiskey Sour
Amaretto Sour
Greyhound
Screwdriver
Scotch and Soda (Or Water)
Always alternate drinks with either plain soda or water without alcohol, this does two things, spreads out the time between drinks so you don't over drink and it hydrates your body (Alcohol is dehydrating, its a diuretic) and Will reduce hangovers.

My fave is mango malibu and cranberry juice. My fiance likes capitan and coke. My best friend likes Long Islands, but if you get that Jamacian it has more juice in it and cherries (but that'll get you totally wasted). If your not up for getting drunk and you dont like beer (most of us dont) try a drink that is very popular in France. Its called a Panache. Its 1/2 beer (a sweet beer like miller light or honeyweiss) and half 7up or sierra mist. Its light and refreshing and doesn't give you that beer after taste. Hope you like these suggestions!

Depending on what your tastebuds like. . .
If it's sweet you are looking for:
Hurricane
Malibu Rum and Pineapple Juice
Amaretto and Orange Juice
Chocolate Cake ( yum!)
Lunchbox
Sex on the Beach
Sexual Orgasm
Peppermint Patty
If it's sour that your tongue is wanting:
Medori Sour
Amaretto Sour
YaegerBomb
Margarita
I hope you find a flavor that you enjoy. Gotta say it... Don't drink and drive. But have fun! Be responsible.

I see no one mentioned my favorite summertime drink - a Bay Breeze: Cranberry juice, pineapple juice and Bacardi rum. If you want sweeter add Malibu or whatever coconut rum they have.
Also, I saw a Sea breeze mentioned, but they forgot to say that one has grapefruit juice in it, whic for me is icky.
Also, for a creamy drink that goes down like a milkshake, try a Toasted Almond. Kahlua, Amaretto (almond flavored) and milk/cream. Very yummy!
