Okay, I have a collection account on my credit report from Verizon and they will not take it off my credit. I have disputed it with all credit bureas and 2- of them have taken it off. But Transunion has not. It is not my account and I have co-operated with everyone but they still will NOT take it off. Does anyone know what I could do?

If you follow my instructions this matter will get resolved. Contact me if you have any questions.

You first must understand how the "game" is played. Go to the link below and read the Fair Credit Reporting Act. It explains the procedure you must follow in order to get an incorrect item deleted from your credit report.

Send all letters by certified mail/return receipt. You will need this proof in the event you have to go to court.

Send a dispute letter to the credit bureau. I assume you have already done this, but do you still have the proof?

Explain that this is not your debt, and you want it investigated. You may need to include a copy of your drivers license.

Note that this may not be ID theft. The credit bureaus are very good at putting other people's debts on the wrong accounts. I've had this happen to me several times.

Next, send a letter to the creditor who listed this on your history (either Verizon or the collection agency). Demand that this debt be validated. That means they must send you copies of contracts, bills, receipts, and everything used to calculate what they claim you owe. Use the sample letter I've supplied in the link below for this.

They will have 30 days to respond back to your letter. If they don't, send a copy of this letter, plus another demand to the credit bureau to remove the listing based on "lack of validation".

If the listing is still not removed, you now have grounds to sue both the credit bureau and the creditor for $1000 for violation of the FCRA. This can easily be done in small claims court without a lawyer, and you WILL easily win, as long as you have followed this procedure.

I've done it myself and won $1200 for my troubles.

Good luck.

My husband had an ID theft account with Verizon. He faxed them a copy of his police report and drivers license to the ID theft dept and they fixed the account the that day. That's all they need for proof.

Of course it took about a month of calling and finding someone who cared, but after you find that person you tell them you want a letter. Then you send copies of the letter to the credit bureaus and they update it. If you don't fix it with Verizon first then they will just keep updating the accounts and it will right back on the credit reports.

If you have reported in writing to Transunion the circumstances of this issue, they have to report your version as well as Verizon's to anyone asking for your credit report.
