My grandmother is 96 years old, and she can still walk and everything, but she's getting weaker. We just found out that she has gallstones and we don't know how much longer she's gonna last because she's too old to have a surgery. My mom told me to prepare myself for when she dies, because it's inevitable. But I don't know how to prepare myself because she's been in my life all my sixteen years and I can't imagine how it will be without her. How do I prepare myself for something like this?

You can never prepare yourself for the death of a loved one. I've lost my Mom and brother -- they both were ill and I knew they were dying but it still hit me like someone took a ballbat to my head. Just make sure you tell her you love her. I did have to smile tho--the woman is 96!!!! All she has is gallstones!! I'm sure her tummy hurts--she probably gets a tad cranky (I think you're allowed at her age!) Make sure you listen to every family story she has to tell no matter how often you've heard it, write it down, record it, whatever--how lucky you are!!! Most of all--tell her every time you see her that you love her! Love matters the most!

I would like to first say sorry for you and for grandma definetly
like many other people have told your never really prepare yourself for it. It maybe a little easier but you will go through the grieving process the same. I last my died the week before my daugher was born in 2002. He had been dying for about three years , so we knew it was coming helps a little but it still hurts the same weather you know or if it just happens. Good luck hope all goes well if not hang in there it will get better

You might want to get ready some explanations to friends in case you start getting angry or crying all of a sudden, perhaps get some reading done on coping mechanisms, and pray for the best to happen. *hug* Feel better, and I'm sorry that you have to prepare for such a thing.
