If you have a cast iron (a very heavy black pan) it is possible with a bit of practice to cook a decent cake. I used to make a very good cornbread recipe this way. first of all, I would do a thinner cake (less bater) so that it cooks through more quickly without burning the bottom. for instance a 10 inch pan would take half a standard cake mix. cokk the other half aftetrwards. grease the pan well and cook over a low heat cover it with foil or a snug fiiting top. Resist the urge to keep looking at it.....the steam that is trapped helps to cook it. Let it cook for at least 20 minutes before checking. cool and then put a large plate over the top and flip it over. You may need to loosen it a bit with a knife or thin spatula first. You could then cover with frosting. I've steamed English puddings too. It really is a cake, but the English call it a pudding. I would go online and see the how to's for steaming a "pudding".

Believe it or not, the Easy Bake Oven has evolved...you can make some pretty neat cakes and things in there. They also have a cookbook. I saw this on the Food Network, and I wanted to buy one again.

LIke the lady said, you can do it in a crockpot. Also my breadmaker came with cake recipes, if you happen to have one of those..... If you've got a good casserole dish or frypan, here's a link to website with cakes cooked on the stove top - I haven't tried these so good luck.... I saw one done on an Australian cooking programme but can't find it on their website, which is a shame. It was an upside down cake with apricots in a bit of sugar syrup, with ordinary cake batter poured on top (over the back of a spoon so that it spread nicely not just sank straight to the bottom) then I think they cooked it with the lid on. At least you can poke at it and see easily how its cooking....

I just made this the other day and it is a great summet recipe. Add a can of drained pineapple to a tub of the light cool whip and spread over angel food cake or sponge cake, Top with strawberries. It is good for you, sugar free and isnt too rich.

Read the box to see if the cooking time can be altered to use a microwave. Also if this is possible use a square pan only, a microwave won't cook in a rectangle pan, the center won't cook.
