Just curious. I don't dare go past 3 days...maybe I am too conservative?

If it expires, I add lemon juice or vinegar and make buttermilk for salad dressing or baking!

I wouldn't worry too much about my health as I would find it quite difficult to drink milk once it has spoiled. The odor is awful, and the one time I accidently drank some bad milk...it was quite disgusting....sooooo, at the first sign of suspicious odor, the milk goes in the trash. It's hard to establish a firm date to dump your milk after the expiration because it can vary a lot depending on the time of year and the quality of your refrigerator. A bad refrigerator during summer will make it hard for your milk to even reach the expiration date. On the other hand, with a good refrigerator in the middle of winter, I've had milk last a week to ten days after the expiration date. Trust your nose. Good milk has almost no scent. Once you start to smell anything suspicious, dump it.

My experience is that it depends upon the store where you got it. Some must keep it at such high temps that the milk starts to taste bad on its expiration date.

I've switched to soy milk. It always carries expiration dates farther in the future than any milk carton. I am not sure about how good it is after its expiration date though. Usually not something I have to worry about because it's all gone by the time that date arrives.

Milk isn't safe no matter what the date is. Milk can make you sick and kill you, or at least shorten your life. Cow's milk is for calves. It is definitely not good for humans. It can cause a lot of health problems. I think it should be against the law to sell milk for human consumption. If you will click on the link below and read "Marketing Milk and Disease" by John McDougall, MD", or any of the other links you will probably never drink milk again.

Yeah if you must go like a day or two but if you smell it or like take a little taste and see that it is no different than it was you'll be fine! We need conservative people to make up for those who waste right?

Like the ad, cottage cheese doesn't come in a carton... The milk goes when I can smell it, regardless of the expiration date (I'm picky).

7 days. But I sniff after the date, just in case.

you can safely go a week, based on smell and taste but i usually have to throw mine out by 2days after sellby date because i drink skim milk and from my experience that spoiled quicker than regular milk
