ibuprofen and heat (from super hot shower)
Also, you might try putting some Ben-Gay on, too.

Rest now, and take Advil or something similar.

When you go to work, try to figure out what you can do so your hands don't get so sore. Do you work at a computer? Is it set up ergonomically correct? Do you use vibrating tools? Are you a dental worker or a hairdresser? Find out if there is an occupational health nurse or clinic at work and get them to help you figure out how to make your work environment easier on your hands.

If the soreness is acute or short term meaning you havent had the soreness awhile use ice not heat, heat is for chronic pain. Try drinking more water also, what kind of job is it, could be carpel tunnel syndrome.

Pirate_Wench has a good understanding of what to do. That's exactly what I would do...heating pads, a good hand rub by a loved one. Some absorbine jr perhaps. and loads of rest. The hands do become stronger over time.

RICE
Rest
Ice
Compression
Elevation
Wrap your hands and wrists with some ice packs and Ace bandages and elevate them while you watch TV for a while.
Also if you can stand the fumes....use some Icy-Hot on them.
And take some Advil....it helps with swelling and pain.
