First of all I wouldn't be overly concerned about something that happens only once in a while.

It could be anything. You might just wake up from a dream, that you didn't remember, that for some reason made you sad, Some sound , smell, or other sensory input at night may have aroused some sad feeling by reminding you of something.

Or most likely, at night as we drift into sleep our mind wanders and gets into a part waking part sleep state in which our thoughts drift and become irrational. Some sad thoughts or feelings could have come up in this half asleep state.

Or maybe just waking up or being awake knowing you are the only one awake triggered some feeling of being alone, or maybe an old memory of feeling alone.

All of which is to say-- feelings come and go all the time, and you may never find out, and its probably not very important..

It could be depression....there are lots of different kinds. It could also be bipolar disorder. That is where all of your emotions are very extreme with no grey area and you go in and out of them for no reason. Sometimes it happens several times a day, or week, or months. It just all depends. There is also a new mental disorder they are just now starting to check in to. Actually it's not new at all but the doctors are finally getting around to considering it a real health problem. I can't remember the medical name but it is severe loneliness disorder. I suggest you find yourself a good psych doctor. A family doctor is okay but a psych will be better able to help, diagnose and treat you. After all...you wouldn't go to a pizza shop for seafood. There is no shame in getting help for mental problems either so don't feel bad. It doesn't mean you're crazy. Try to hang in there and know I'll be thinking of you. I hope you have an amazing evening!

What's going on in your life right now? Maybe the "busy-ness" of your day distracts from your true feelings and they only come when everyone is asleep and your home is silent. I don't think anyone is sad for "no reason" there is always something that triggers it or brings it out. Try talking to a counselor or really asking yourself what is wrong.

If you want to label this as depression, you must also accept the fact that it is self induced.. something you can regain control over..should you decide to learn how... Or you can continue with this uncomfortable phenomenon and learn to live with it. Then just get on with your life.

Perhaps you need to look back into your childhood and see if your favorite pet or something dear to you, actually died. Then recognize what you are experiencing when your mind gets quiet, prior to going to sleep. There is apt to be a trigger imbedded in there and the associative thought of going to sleep touches it, and you have this reaction.

Yes, these are the symptoms of Depression. At this young age, you should not be suffering from this ailment. Try distracting yourself like reading a good novel before going off to sleep, watching a good movie etc. You'll need to see a Psychiatrist. Meditation & yoga would be good options as well. Good luck to you.

What are you thinking about when this happens. maybe your just not happy with where you are in life. I agree with everyone else a visit to a counselor could at the least relieve stress.

All your feelings are made electrically from your aura. You need to manage your aura. The easiest way would be to fall in love as it will be the strongest aura.

Could be a drop in your serotonin levels...eat some dark chocolate and see if that helps.
