I know how you feel. I had a cat disappear on me too, and I was devastated for long time afterwards. The hardest pert of moving on is the not knowing what happened to your cat. That was the hardest part for me and that is why it took me a while to move on. I did get another cat, but I never stopped grieving for that cat I had lost. I can't tell you when you should throw in the towel. That is a decision you have to make, but take my advice, don't rush the decision. Your heart will let you kno wwhen it's time to let go. Right now, you need to morn the loss of your pet, even thought he or she might still be alive. You never know, cats do funny things sometimes. it might come back someday. Just listen to your heart, and when it feels it's time to let go, you will know. In the mean time, try to hang in there.

You noted that you had just moved. Depending how far from your old home you have moved, you might consider checking near your old home too.
After you have looked there, and made another check at your local shelter, there is not much more you can actively do. It sounds like you have already done much of what you should do to find her.
There is always a chance that your cat will come home. Given that there is a "forest" behind your house, the cat could be just beyond the edge of your yard. You don't have to give up all hope, but you should maintain realistic expectations. Hopefully, your cat will come back. Understand the reality that she might not.

A few years ago, our house cat escaped and was missing for a month, we lived in an area similar to you with a lot of woods and i was about to give up on ever finding her. Then my dad rented a humane raccoon trap (looks like a pet carrier with a trap door) and we put her favorite food in it and she turned up about a week later, she had been living under the deck.
Don't give up, it's tough loosing a pet that is part of the family, while you're waiting, think of the good times and remember even if it doesn't come back you were at least blessed with the time you had.
Good luck!

DON'T GIVE UP! Keep searching! Call the animal shelters every day. Try walking along the forest in the back. Maybe she wandered off somewhere. Or ask your mom to drive u around town and look everywhere for your cat. She could be wandering anywhere. So just take your car and drive around. Post around more flyers with rewards. Just keep trying. I hope u find your cat soon. Good luck.

When we have a pet we love and for what ever reason we lose them we remember them forever. Was your cat microchipped. When you get another pet get them microchipped the if they are found you will get it back. I would not completely give up just yet. You may want to check with some of your old neighbors if you did not move very far. When you get another cat you can train it to be on a harness and a lead.. At the Humane Society we recomend not letting the cat out for at least 2 to 3 months but if they are tethered it can be sooner.

There is no evidence your cat has died, I would still believe she will come home again, someday. Keep an eye out for her. She maybe hiding from the raccoons and
maybe fearful to come out from where she currently is. Perhaps during the day you can walk in the small forest with another friend or parent, calling her name and looking around for her. As time passes then you may come to realize she may not be coming back but for now...do everything you can to find your beloved cat. I will remember you in prayers.

I'm so sorry to hear that your kitty is gone. Give her some more time, but keep checking with the local shelters. And post flyers in your old neighborhood, too - sometimes cats go "home." When you find her again, get her microchipped - it's inexpensive and doesn't hurt the pet.
Good luck! My furry kitty-kids and I will think good thoughts for you and your kitty

I don't think we ever really give up and I am sorry for your loss. Rule #1 don't let your cats outside...there are too many predators that can hurt them, as well as cars and mean children/teens/adults.
It is possible someone picked up your cat and thought it was a stray, so they just took her in. It is also possible that something bad may have happened. My advice is that you keep looking for her if your heart tells you she is alive and out there. I wish you the best.

I hope your cat comes back soon. She probably went into the woods and got lost because she was unfamiliary with the place. Maybe she wandered into a different yard and has been "adopted". If that happens I bet she will eventually come back as she explores the neighborhood and finds you.

wow i cant imagine what your going thru. i hope you get throu it and wish you the best of luck. unfortuantly racoons arent the only thing thats probably in those woods. you mite have wolves too. place tuna outside. if you get a second cat or any animal make sure you get her microchip. - you can do this at any vet or maybe at your shelter. but if her tags fall off and someone picks her up to take her to a vet or shelter theyll scan her first thing and bring her back to you!!
