yes, I do think Isaac/Ishmael was killed in spirit (hey, don't some xians say that thinking it is the same as doing it?). he was *willing*, but God sent a proxy. how sick is that? the "father" of three world religions was willling to KILL his own son to show his devotion to some invisible man in the sky.

proof of being willing to do anything for god - would YOU kill YOUR child for god? why not? abraham was willing to.

today we would deal with such illness properly and put him away due to being a danger to himself and/or others. period.

no. God was merely testing Abrahams FAITH. He had no intention of letting Abraham kill his own son, but was determining if Abraham loved and would obey God enough to do it. If you remember the scripture when Issac asked Abraham where the sacrifice was, He replied "God will provide the sacrifice". Issac was not a child, it is currently believed that Issac was probably a teenager, able to fight off Abraham had he chosen to. Issac was also faithful and obedient to his father. As painful as it was for Abraham to bind Issac to the altar, he was obedient and faithful, as was God by releasing Abraham of is duty. Unlike God himself who did not release himself of the duty of
the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for everybody's sins.

No I don't believe he did. God seen that abraham was willing to do so and therefore had prooved his devotion. I understand your question And the difference between that and what I am saying is really just a splitting of hairs. either way, it was the willingness to fullfill what he was asked that held meaning.not if or if not issac was killed, which is why I say he wasn't.

first, Abraham didn't kill his son. he took him to the mountain, made an altar, put his son on the altar for a sacrifice and lifted his blade. But, God called to him and told him not to kill his son, and He provided a lamb to take the boys place. it is a picture of God the Father sacrificing His Son for our sins, but God did not stop this sacrifice, because it was the only way for people to turn to God, in the name of Jesus, and repent.

The bad news is, people weren't so merciful with God's son.

The good news is, Christ was not killed in the Spirit, and his flesh was resurrected...

This may seem irrelevant to some, but; I remember the day that my Grandfather taught me to clean a fish. I died a little that day...

All you have to do is picture your father tying you to an alter and pulling out a knife to kill you , would you not scream and beg for him not to kill you?
Even if god stopped him, Wouldn't you be forever emotionally scarred and have your spirit destroyed?
If the god in heaven could be that cruel to a child I can do without that god.
A test my *ss that is child abuse to the maximum.

Abraham didn't actually kill Issac....did he? I think God was just checking to see if he would actually do it. When He seen that Abraham was really going to go through with it, God said, "Woa woa woa!!! I was just kiddin, man!...That was just a test, dude! You're cool."

Yes. Isaac would have suffered post-traumatic stress.
These days we call this behaviour child abuse and Abraham would have served a long prison sentence.
Yet religious people seem to admire him.

No, because he was too young to know fully what was happening when he was brought to the altar.
