I went to BJs Wholesale Club and they have Bassett mattress for $100(mattress)+80 (box). Does anyone have a Bassett and do you know if it is worth the money or am I better off going elsewhere. My son is only 2 but I would like it to last a while and me or my wife may be sleeping with him at first. Any input would be greatly appreciated. This is for a twin mattress and want to try to stay under $200 if possible.

There are plenty of discounter mattress sellers around where I live (and I am sure in your area too -- just look in the phone book). I would do a little price comparison over the phone 1st -- then go to the store, and lay down on it to make sure it can support your own weight comfortably (I did this before I purchased my own children's 1st mattresses -- which were also twins). Whatever you decide -- he is still a toddler -- so expect that the mattress will be used as a trampoline (at times) and that he will launch himself at the mattress too.

That is why I suggest a good, strong frame -- if wood, go to your local hardware store (or Lowes/Home Depot or whatever), and purchase DOUBLE the number of slats, and add in the middle of these new slats you are going to cut to fit, put a supplemental leg like the middle support slat has when you purchase the frame.

It is very easy to cut these pieces of wood to fit -- can be done with a hand saw. I used Carriage Bolts to anchor the new slats to the new little feet under the slats -- and countersunk them to make sure that they did not damage the box spring.

So let your fingers do the walking through the phone 1st. Then, get the lumber and beef up the frame. It will pay off in the long run, by making the frame last as long as possible.

Bassett is one of the three or four big manufacturers. This is about as good as can be done for under $200.

"I'd say buy it" at BJ's and thinkl about replacing it in 5 years.
