Male cats are neutered at 12 - 16 weeks of age. If you wait until the cat is 6 months old it will probably have already begun to spray it's territory.

Well, a male cat should never be spayed. Neutered, yes, but not spayed. :)
My male cat was neutered at 5 1/2 months, a few weeks after all his kitten shots were completed, at the vets recommendation.
Be sure to do it by 6-8 months, because once the cat started spraying to mark his terrority, he'll continue all his life. (It won't be as bad as if he were "whole", but it'll be a habit).

A male cat is neutered as soon as both testes have descended into the scrotum, usually by 6 months of age. It is possible to neuter a male before that, but it is a more invasive, dangerous , and expensive procedure.
I had a developmentally disabled male that needed to be fixed the moment he could and the vet would not do it until both testicles had come down into his sac.

You do not spay a male cat. However you can have it nuetured.
You can do this as early as 4 months as I had my cat nuetured at that age.

hi a male or female should be at least 6 mos. old, and try to get it done before they are a year, because then the sexual instincts have come out and you might have a problem with them spraying (marking things with urine) and sometimes if you wait too long they continue to do this, so the earlier the better! but at least 6 mos, no younger! cause i have read that sometimes they have done it really young and it can hurt the kitties badly, well eme if you ever need any kitty help, or just to talk about furry kitty children! god bless. iadorecats1955@netscape.com

AS YOUNG AS POSSIBLE! the younger any animal is the less pain theyll be in.- an adult cat will experience more pain than a kitten- but you MUST get it done. cats can multiply within months making them homeless forcing them to eats bugs and rodents- no kidding and just giving the babies a real hard life!

2 months is about the minimum most vets will do. But you also have to wait for the testicles to drop before they perform the castration. (you can't cut out what's not down there yet ;) )Some vets also have a weight requirement, but that's the vets preference, so you'd have to check with them. but definately do it before they start spraying, cause once they start that they may not stop even after the neuter.

Females are spayed, males are neutered. Actually, you can have it done as early as six weeks, usually it's done at six months.
