It's only $30 or so a month. Is this something we can all agree on?

My church supports many different orphans in starving countries. Why not check out what Catholic relief gives. There are many different missionaries throughout the world. One of the guys at work just left for South America to help poor people build houses. You don't always have to give money you can also give your time. Let's not also forget about the many starving and poor people in our own country.

I take it that you are referring to one of those "Feed the Children" television commercials?
First, I have a starving cat and I am pretty hungry myself, so in my view my money is well spent right in my own household. Eighty percent of the money you donate to these "charity" groups goes into the Administration of the organization. A non profit group is a business that uses all it's revenue in it's Administration ...so the Chairmen or CEOs gets huge retirement packages that suck up the profit ...legally they get away with calling themselves NON profit.
It's a scam. If you want to help the needy, I am sure there is a neighbor on your street that is having a tough time paying an electric bill or buying school supplies for the kids. Keep a list of what you give to others and you can claim charitable contributions on your taxes...including buying girl scout cookies.

Because I already have charities I donate to, thought I can't afford to give a lot. And do NOT wish to get hung up in one of those monthly donation things! I'm currently not working, have limited finances, things to pay for, pets to care for, and a car to still feed so I can mange to get where I need to go.

In this day and age, when people are losing health care and other benefits in work, when minimum wage is very little, and those that get paid more then that are still payed little, most of us aren't rich, and gas prices and that of other things is horrible...$30 a month is a lot! Only thirty a month you say...you must make a nicer salary then most of us...

no, it isn't. I give locally, to the United Way and to friends and acquaintances that need a good turn. I've kept a kid or two from starving in the first place, thankyouverymuch.

not saying others shouldn't give, but all that don't give to the "starving children" aren't being selfish.

Im not christian or athiest, and I agree that they do need the money for food. I just dont have any money to give. If I did have the money, I would give it to them.

I couldn't possibly give that kind of money. But I do give money away every time I can, yes. I cannot give you a reason why I'm not doing something which I AM doing.

My parents struggle to feed our family, pay for our house, cars, and put my brother through college so he can have a future. We can't afford to feed starving kids.
