I've had several different upstairs neighbors in different apartment complexes throughout the years and every single one has felt the need to stomp like an elephant and move furniture around at all hours of the morning. Where does one find room to run around for 3 hours straight in an apartment? What possesses people to relocate their sofas and dining tables at 2am? Most of these people had jobs, so I'm assuming they weren't tweakers.

If they are doing this, then they are very rude !!!!!

This is incredibly rude...whether it's done at 2:00 p.m. or 2:00 a.m. Anyone who has ever lived downstairs knows what it's like to have a "herd of elephants" living upstairs from them.

I'm not sure what kind of apartment complex you live in...whether it's a large one, or a small building owned by one person. Regardless, there should be noise rules. In the complex where I live, excessive noise is unacceptable at any hour of the day, but any noise is unacceptable after 10:00 p.m. My first thought was that maybe your upstairs neighbors work nights? Maybe they're insomniacs?

Have you tried contacting your landlord/rental office to file noise complaints about your neighbors? If so, it would seem that after a certain number of warnings to these people, they'd be evicted. Then again...money is money, and they're always on time when it comes to paying their rent, so the landlord doesn't care. Sad, but it could be true.

My only suggestion (if you've already filed noise complaints) would be to move to an upstairs apartment yourself. I know you shouldn't *have* to, but until you're fortunate enough to get a 90 lb. old lady who lives by herself and very rarely moves around, it sounds like this is going to continue. Some people have no regard for others.

I live in an apt complex also, on the first floor. At least for the apartments I live in, I think cheap materials were used in the construction of them when built 20 years ago! I always think the people above me are bowling or playing Duck, Duck, Goose. I can't really complain since I have never told them how noisy they are.

I lived on the second floor in my last apt. I am a pretty calm person and when the management came to me and told me that the people below were moving out becuase of the noise, I thought they were insane! Even though these were brand new "luxury" apartments, again cheap construction on the wall and floor insulation!

Apartment builders are selfish and greedy *******!

Just thought I'd throw this in here for ya....

Often its not really an issue of "those kinds of people"..... Depending on what type of apartment you live in.... Many "new construction" apartment complexes are built VERY poorly and quickly so warm bodies can get into them and start forking over the dough!!!

Most often, poor construction can make it seem like theres a heard of elephants living above you! When it might just be a bit of semi normal movements of the people. Of course you're the one who can actually hear what's happening... I'm just saying that that's quite common as well and could be the cause of it.

What are tweakers? Never heard that term. I think at night sounds are magnified and it sounds like they are walking around in combat boots upstairs. Take a broom and knock back on the ceiling!

I have the same problem and wonder when in the world the guy sleeps as he's up until 2:00a.m. or later and out the door for work before my husband is. He must be OK on only four hours of sleep!

They're busy hiding the bodies.

We had neighbors like that they moved. We thought we were lucky, til the next ones moved in and they smoke cigars and cigarettes and the smoke filters down thru our vents. Disgusting. I'd rather have the stompers back now.

They could very well have been tweakers. They are up all night - don't need any sleep - and then they head off to work? Sounds like a tweaker to me.

dude, I have no idea, but they also like to play their music so loud at all hours too! And then you wonder if they have a job, because you can always hear them!

Maybe the neighbours are sound asleep & are being invaded by small decorating trolls.
