matters for the length of time you would be babysitting and for what time of day, but I would say for evening no later than 8:30 and during the day and for no longer then a couple hours at most that yes you probably could handle that. But still you have to consider your maurity level and if others feel you aren't ready yet, heed their suggestion.

I started babysitting at age 10 or 11. I took a course on babysitting at the American Red Cross which I think helped prepare me a lot for the job. The course was just one day and they gave me a binder to take with me so that I had all sorts of valuable information at-hand while I was babysitting. You might want to look into something like that if you want some training that can boost your confidence in your babysitting skills.

Also, some parents hire sitters to help watch the children, even while they are at home, so that they can get some work done around the house without having to supervise or entertain the children all day. If you are worried about being left alone with the children, you might want to advertise that you are available to assist with childcare as long as a parent is there with you; that way, you gain experience working with children without the full responsibilities of babysitting. I did this as well as it was nice to have the parents close by in case I had any questions.

Good luck in your new jobs!

I was 11 when I started babysitting a young boy in my neighborhood, BUT, my parents made me get my First Aid certification. I would say pre-teen is okay, if you are mature and if you were to get some sort of certification in First Aid in case of an emergency.

I started at 13. I wouldn't let a pre-teen babysit my kids ever!

I think that it all depends on how mature you are.
