you shouldn't. you may have a greater chance of your glass breaking. you'll need to safely bring it up to room temperature (if that means microwaving in turns - not straight through- until it reaches room temperature) then put it in the oven.

Sure you can but it will probably break. A better idea would be to put the cold dish into the oven and then turn the oven on, thereby allowing the dish and the food in it to heat gradually as the oven heats. For most dishes this is not a problem but your baking time might need to be adjusted a bit.

Going from cold to hot is the whole idea of Pyrex. PYREX® glassware products can go directly from refrigerator or freezer to a microwave, convection, or preheated conventional oven. A small amount of liquid should be added to the ovenware vessel prior to baking foods that release liquids while cooking. Originally, the glass was developed by Corning Glass Works, Incorporated to make railroad signal lanterns that wouldn’t break under the extreme temperatures that the signal lanterns had to endure. Later in the '60s and ‘70s, NASA used it to make windows on the capsules of the manned Gemini and Apollo missions because PYREX glass was so strong.

I've made dishes ahead of time in a Pyrex casserole dish, put it in the fridge, taken it out WHILE the oven is preheating, and put it in the oven to bake - had no problems. But you might try taking it out during preheating, just to make sure.

it's not quite safe to do so because the glass is too cold to be place in pre-heated oven without warming up. It's easier if you can place the dish in the oven while it's being pre-heated.

I bet it won't. I've frozen casseroles in glass baking dishes and then put them in the oven. I don't know if the manufacturer recommends it, but mine have never broken.

If they are Pyrex, you might be able to get away w/ it.... can you let it come to a bit higher temp first, for just a little while? OTOH, cold food in teh dish may keep the dish from cracking from the heat, b/c it's got cold on one side and hot on the other....

Pyrex is heat tempered and oven safe. as long as you are taking it from the oven and straight onto a big chunk of ice it will be fine.
