he is 3 months old! the vet said there is no infection but thinks he could be constipated! he has a teaspoon of metamucil morning and night and his poos are soft but not runny! they dont get stuck in his fur, it is like he cant push the whole lot out in one go! everytime he sits down he leaves a little wet patch! only a spot! Other than all that he is in good health drinks water and eats wet food! i just thought i would ask u because each time i go to the vet it costs me well over $50 and no results!

bladder infection!
also, cats wont use a dirty litterbox... make sure to clean it out morning and night
make sure to feed your cat a good, quality cat food that is low in ash, to promote good urinary tract health; nutro, iams, or science diet are best
plenty of clean, free choice water
take your cat to the vet right away, bladder infections are very painful
good luck

Our cat Melvin had this problem. He would try to go to the bathroom but nothing would come out but then when he'd feel the urge he would go where ever he was (in the bathtub, on the carpet, etc.) We found out that he had a bladder infection. We got the medicine and he seemed to do better but then he continued to have more. The vet had us switch to moist food only and we bought purified water for him (like 59 cents at the grocery store.) Now he hasn't had one for 3 years. There is litter out there that is made to detect whether your kitty has a bladder infection. It has grey litter that will turn blue if there is an infection. In the northwest you can find it at a grocery store called Fred Meyer, but I'm sure you can find it at almost any grocery store. I'd get this and if it turns blue I'd take him to a vet, but if it doesn't and if he still has difficulties I would definately take him to the vet. A bladder infection won't go away on it's own and could eventually ruin his kidneys. The matter about the poo sounds like he just has a lot of hair. We carefully trim our long hair kitty in that region (carefully being the key word...you wouldn't want to accidentally snip something.)

Jen, You need a new vet. This is not normal. If he's straining in the box and not producing urine and then doing little puddles outside the box that's CLASSIC uninary track infection behavior. Did your rather expensive vet check his urine for infection, blood, crystals? I wonder if you might suggest putting him on antibiotics just to see if the problem clears up. See what the NEW vet says about that...

I would take him to the vet or groomer and see if they can remove some of the hair around his parts. That may help with the dingleberries. As for him peeing around the room, if you have an open cat box, try a closed one. I know some cats will not go in the open because they feel threatened.
Good luck.

Your male cat could have an obstruction in his urethra. Take him to the vet, as this can become fatal. If your cat is old, sometimes their muscle tone in their back end isn't so good. That could be why he is having trouble. Either way, it would be very wise to see a vet. Changes in bathroom habits can be very telling.

When one of my cats did this, I found out he had a kidney/bladder infection.. Then when the urine finally would come out ,it might be in any room in your home.Your cat could have kidney stones, if so , they could cut the wall of the kidney or bladder and your cat might hemmorage.. I wouldn't take any chances , go to the Vet... Some cat foods have too much Posphate in them and could cause kidney stones.

your cat could have a urinary tract infection, or worse be blocked which means he can't urinate. this is a very serious condition. if he is blocked you need to get him to the vet right away the bladder can only hold so much urine and it could rupture and kill him. even if it does not rupture he is in a great deal of distress. take him to an emergency hospital tonight for treatment. this is very serious. if he is not blocked better safe than sorry.

He may have a medical condition called Sturvite Chrystals. This will prohibit the kitten from using the bathroom and he will sit and aquat anythere and everywhere to try and go. It is uncommon for a kitten his age to get this but not impossible. I suggest getting him to the Vet and getting him checked out.
