I had my 2 kittens when they were 10 weeks old. I let them out after 6 months of having them and having them both neutered - advice from the RSPCA. At first I went out with them with a lead just so they got use to it. Now they go out all day and come back in for sleep and food - they love it outside. The kittens often wonder into others gardens, and one neighbour says she finds it funny he watches her do the gardening lol
I agree with onetonkilla - my ex-cat was 17 (so if their life expediency is half, does that make others cats live til 34!!!) and was out all the time, every night all night, I had a good relationship with him - so I blame the owners.
My opinion is people say it's not safe outside then my argument is why the hell do you (person) go out outside then - you face danger everyday.

Hiya i got 2 cats (brothers) and they are nearly two years old. to be honest for the first six months i suffocated them i wouldnt let them out until they had both been neutered. they were about 6 months old when i let them out. but make sure you have a cat flap so they dont feel isolated. chances are they will go out for an hour and pop back in for food, my 2 wander out my garden all day but they always seem to come back at night time to cuddle up with me and my boyf. i would say around 6 months old and then make sure you have a cat flap installed, and train them to use it with a bit of ham each side !!

If your cat is demanding to be outside make sure he has his shots, a collar with info on it and use the spot on for flea control.
Cats over the age of one year can safely find their way back home, under and they get lost.

hmm it depends solely upon the cats relationship with its owner (you) if it gets attached at an early age like my kitten you can probly let it out around 7months or so, my kitten is around that age and she does just fine on her own ( i have a soft spot for cats : ) umm also Ive had another cat before hand and he was an indoor/outdoor cat and he lived to the ripe old age of 14 so dont let the others scare you about their experiences they sound like irresponsible pet owners.

A cat that stays outside all the time statistically have their life spans shorten by half. I got this from a Discovery channel program, or at least thats the way I remeber it.

Since it is a make kitty you are talking about, I would suggest getting him neutered first, because male cats have a tendency to run away as seak out female cats to mate with. You can get a kittne neutered as young as six weeks, but I recommend six months.

Me personally i would not let your cat outside at any age because of many outdoor illnesses. Cats that go outside get tics and many other bugs on them that might give them a diease make them sick, or even kill them. l learned the hard way by letting my cat outside because my cat was three and she of an outdoor illness. Please do not let your cat outside, keep her inside. Make her an indoor cat. Indoor cats are healthy cats that live a long life.

At 6 months old, you should have your cat neutered/spayed and inoculated against cat distemper and cat flu and whatever else your vet would advise then It is safe to let them out. It is cruel and selfish to keep them locked up all their lives.

You shouldn't let your cat outside.Even if he has a flea collar.Ticks will still bite. And even if your cat is Spayed he or she will try to mate and that can bring on many diseases.Did you know there is a feline version of AIDS?
