When you feel that his quality of life is so poor that he would rather not live, consult with a vet and get another opinion. Then act accordingly. I've heard it said, "Better a week to soon than a minute too late." It's a difficult decision to make, but it is the right thing to do - when it's time.

Ask your vet. There are certain guidelines he has to follow in order to put a pet down. We put our yellow lab to sleep 3 weeks ago. He was 11 years old and his back legs gave out on him. He couldn't stand or walk. We knew it was time and the vet agreed.
And honestly, it's a horrible decision to have to make. What helps now is that we know he had a good life. I wish you all the best.

The average life span of a Rotweiler is about 8 to 10 years. Before you decide to put him down, take him to the vet for a check-up. Only put him down if he is deathly ill and is suffering and in a lot of pain.

NEVER put your dog down just because your dog seems bored! Only let something die if it's suffering a terrible desease! your dog is just depressed - -you should play with him more and do things he wants to do.
you know, your Rottweiler still has two years left!
they live for 8-11 years

Look for anything out of the norm...if your dog has a big appetite (like my rottie Maggie) and his appetite has decreased, that's a sign. Also look for signs of problems walking, getting up, etc. Sometimes, when dogs get older, they have joint problems.
If you would like to put your dog down, call your vet. They can schedule an appointment to euthenize your dog.
You will know when it is time to put your dog down. If your dog is in a lot of pain and is suffering, I suggest you put it down. But if your dog is doing ok, then wait till things become bad. Good Luck and I hope things work out for ya!

I had to put my 12 year old boxer down two days ago. It was a matter of quality of life for me. My old man wa mostly blind and deaf and major arthritis in both rear stifles. It hurt my to my very core to hold him and know that he was not going to be with me after that point, but I know that it was the kindest most loving thing I could do for me dear old friend.

Last week we had to put my cat to sleep. He was about 15 years old never washed himself and never ate. There was nothing we could do.
Take your dog to the vet see if theres any thing they can do to help if not then they will tell you its time to put him down.

When you take your friend to the vet, and he say's when your ready. And you go home and look at eachother and you start to cry because their quality of life is gone, and the only reason that they keep hanging on is to make you happy. You look into eachothers eyes, and realize that it's selfish, and your friend is in pain. Give them a hug, after you make your decision, and tell them you love them. It's not easy, I still miss my heart dog after 3 years...........

Is you dog in pain? Is he not doing his normal routine? If he is in pain and your vet can't do anything for him, then it is time to have him put down. It is a simple overdose of anesthesia and is painless to the animal. It will be harder on you than on the dog.
